Kristin Davis, known for her role as Charlotte York in "Sex and the City" and its sequel "And Just Like That," recently shared her experience of welcoming her children later in life through adoption. At the age of 58, Davis reflected on parenting and expressed that she has no regrets about becoming a mom at an older age.

During an appearance on "Today with Hoda & Jenna" on June 23, 2023, Davis discussed her journey of becoming a mother in her 40s and 50s. She stated that there was no other way it could have happened until much later as she wasn't ready to be a mother, mentally or emotionally, earlier in her life.

Davis has two adopted children of color. The actress became a first-time mom to Gemma Rose in 2011 through domestic adoption. The decision came when she realized that she deeply wanted to become a mother despite having no serious partner in life.

Then 38, Davis felt the ticking of time and the strong desire to start a family. Gemma's adoption was kept a secret, and Davis didn't discuss the process or the name she had chosen until after the adoption was finalized.

The name Gemma Rose sparked speculation among her fans, as it coincidentally shared the middle name with Kristin's character Charlotte's daughter, Rose. However, Kristin clarified in an interview that she considered Rose because she found the name beautiful, without realizing the connection to her on-screen child.

In 2018, Davis expanded her family by adopting a son named Wilson. In "Live With Kelly and Ryan" in 2020, she mentioned that having a boy was a different experience, and she had to consider the different needs of both her children due to their age difference.

“No, I don’t have any regrets because I love my kids,” Davis said on becoming a mom late in life. “I don’t think I was ready (before). I wasn’t there in my head or my heart yet.”

As a white mother raising African American children, Davis feels a responsibility to educate herself and provide Gemma and Wilson with a connection to their community. She has emphasized the importance of doing research, building bridges and ensuring her children have access. Kristin has been proactive in understanding and addressing the challenges her children might face due to their race.

Davis's dedication to creating a positive environment for her children includes fostering a strong sense of self-esteem and pride. She regularly provides Gemma with affirmations, reinforcing the beauty of her curls, her Black skin and her overall strength. The doting mom has also made a conscious effort to expose her children to positive Black role models, such as Serena Williams, and incorporate representation in their daily lives through magazines and other media.

During an episode of "Red Table Talk" in 2019, Davis talked about her responsibility to do research, work and build bridges to ensure her children have a connection to the Black community. She acknowledged that raising Black children has given her a more immediate understanding of prejudice and the challenges they may face.

While juggling her acting career, including the recent  "Sex and the City" reboot, Davis prioritizes her children's well-being. When filming, the actress flies home every weekend to spend time with her children, highlighting the importance of finding a work-life balance.

"I would never say yes to a job where I was gone that long unless it was this job. I love this job," referring to “And Just Like That.”
