Arnold Schwarzenegger Reveals He Reunited With A Childhood Love With Help From His Daughters

Despite his failed marriage to Maria Shriver, Arnold Schwarzenegger has always been a proud family man who dotes on his children and prefers to be actively involved in their lives. While his daughters, Katherine and Christina, were growing up in the 1990s, the successful Hollywood star had the chance to be reunited with a childhood love, thanks to his girls.

Schwarzenegger started dating Shriver in 1977 and then got hitched in 1986. After three years of marriage, the couple was blessed with a daughter, Katherine, and then they had Christina in 1991.

Prior to filming his blockbuster movie "True Lies" with director James Cameron and actress Jamie Lee Curtis, Schwarzenegger and Shriver welcomed their first son, Patrick, in 1993. During this time, the action star then temporarily uprooted his growing family to Washington, where most of the filming of "True Lies" took place. The actor also wanted to make sure that he had quality time with his young children in between his busy work schedule on the set.

Katherine was 4 years old and Christina was 2 years old when the family briefly lived in Washington in the 1990s. They also had Ronda, Schwarzenegger's assistant, who prepared the activities that the father could do with his children.

In his 2012 memoir, "Total Recall," Schwarzenegger said that Ronda often cleared his Saturday morning schedule from filming for three hours so that the family could have their father-daughter time while Shriver was with their infant son. So, he, Katherine and Christina devoted these moments to painting, which he admittedly loved to do as a child and was blessed with rekindling his passion for later in life.

The actor said in his memoir that the painting sessions with his daughters were exactly what he needed to de-stress from working on the set. They would paint gift cards, candles, pumpkins and the seaside view from their balcony.

“The girls and I got into this delightful rhythm of drawing and playing together," the actor said

In 2003, Schwarzenegger revealed that he has about 40 to 50 original paintings at home.

"My wife has half of them in her bathroom," the actor said, per Contact Music. "When everyone goes to sleep at 10 I go upstairs to my office and I put on the fireplace and the music and I have the greatest time, I paint until two in the morning every day."

Schwarzenegger loves acrylic as his medium and draws ideas for his paintings from simple items like wrapping paper. The former bodybuilder loves to paint greeting cards to give to family members and close friends on special occasions.

Speaking with Logan Paul on his podcast in 2022, Schwarzenegger admitted that while his children rekindled his love for painting, he realizes that his hobby "inspires other things." In an interview with Mentor on May 1, 2023, Schwarzenegger said that people may be surprised to know that he loves to paint. However, as an Austrian schoolboy, the superstar said that they had arts classes two times a week so they were painting "all kinds of stuff" especially for special occasions like Mother's Day.

Meanwhile, there was only one original Arnold Schwarzenegger masterpiece that went on the market. In 2014, Clark’s Fine Auctions in Los Angeles sold a hand-signed lithograph by the actor for about $100 to $300, per Showbiz411. It was a pencil illustration of two human figures carrying an Olympic torch, and he called it "Inner City Games.”
