Angelina Jolie Pursues New Creative Endeavor After Being Spotted With Singer 24 Years Her Junior Post-Divorce

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, once dubbed “Brangelina,” were one of Hollywood’s most high-profile relationships. They met in 2004 on the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” set and quickly became a global media sensation. They also starred together in “By The Sea.” 

The couple has six children, three of whom were adopted. Maddox, from Cambodia, was adopted by Jolie in 2002 before her relationship with Pitt began. Pitt later adopted Maddox as well. In 2005, they adopted Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt from Ethiopia. Zahara’s adoption highlighted issues such as international adoption and the plight of orphans in Africa, and both Pitt and Jolie were actively involved in philanthropic efforts in the region. Their third child, Pax Thien, was adopted from Vietnam in 2007. They also have three biological children: Shiloh and twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline.

However, Jolie and Pitt shocked the world and made headlines after they filed for divorce in 2016. 

The divorce proceedings were messy from the get-go, with the former power couple locked in a bitter custody battle. However, years later, Jolie remained intent on focusing on her kids while pursuing new endeavors.

Even as Pitt and Jolie went on to live separate lives, the aftermath of their separation has not been easy on either of them or their children. The whole family has been subjected to harsh scrutiny and attention from the media, which was fixated on their personal affairs. Drama kicked off again in 2022 when Pitt sued Jolie for selling part of their winery, Chateau Miraval, to a Russian billionaire, Yuri Shefler. Pitt wrote that he wanted the sale voided and sought the cost of legal fees. Pitt’s lawyers claimed Jolie undertook the sale to thwart her former partner’s efforts to be involved with the property.

Jolie and Pitt bought the property in 2008 and had their 2014 wedding ceremony there. Pitt even gave Jolie 10% of his stake in the property in the South of France as a wedding gift. According to a Vanity Fair article about the winery, Jolie emailed Pitt in January 2021, informing him of her decision to sell her stake. The next month, Pitt agreed to buy out her share of Miraval at $54.5 million.

However, Jolie refused the offer, and the pair failed to reach an agreement. In October 2021, Jolie sold Nouvel, the company managing her stake in Miraval, to Shefler’s Tenute del Mondo. Tenute del Mondo is the winery wing of Shefler’s Stoli firm. Pitt reportedly felt betrayed, feeling like his ex had chosen a different buyer because he won joint legal custody of their young kids. 

In February 2022, Pitt filed a suit against Jolie and the new buyers. Stoli countersued by seeking damages, and Pitt subsequently filed an amended complaint requesting a sale reversal. As the legal back-and-forths played out publicly, Miraval’s existence was threatened.

Finally, Jolie’s business manager suggested a clause in the agreement signed by Pitt and Jolie when they first bought the sprawling property as a possible solution to the deadlock.

The clause suggested that should the couple ever split, they had the right to buy the other’s share of Miraval. Court documents revealed Pitt rejected the idea, telling his business manager it “wasn’t necessary for two reasonable people.” 

Later, he claimed he and Jolie had agreed never to “sell their respective interests in Miraval without the other’s consent,” which made him feel betrayed by the sale of Jolie’s shares without his knowledge. However, Jolie said the claim was false. 

According to Vanity Fair, a leaked email Jolie sent to Pitt on Jan. 21, 2021, showed the effects of their split on Miraval.

“Dear Brad, I have reached a painful decision, with a heavy heart,” she began. She recalled how she had been excited to buy Miraval and make it their family home and how she had fond memories of the place. “Even now (it is) impossible to write this without crying. I will treasure my memories of what it was a decade ago,” she added.

“I see now how you have really wanted me out and will most likely be pleased to receive this email,” Jolie continued. 

The actress added that Pitt had exhibited “inconsiderate” behaviors and left her out of important decisions she wouldn’t have approved. She said she felt sad that Miraval had become the beginning of the end of their family. 

“Miraval for me died September 2016,” she wrote, “and everything I have seen in the years since has sadly confirmed that.”

Their varying visions for the company supposedly prompted her to offer him a chance to buy her out of her shares. 

Aside from the contentious buy-out, something explosive rocked the lives of the Hollywood ex-power couple. People Magazine obtained a redacted confidential FBI report detailing an alleged incident that happened days before Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt. 

The report, which a Jane Doe sought, revealed that the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services (DFCS) and FBI had investigated the “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” actor after they were tipped off that he and Jolie got into a drunken argument when they traveled via a private jet from France to Los Angeles. 

The highly classified report detailed that Pitt got “verbally abusive” and “physical” with one of their children on the plane. Pitt has since denied the said allegations. It also revealed “tension” between the then-couple, to the point that Pitt’s actions made Jolie feel “like a hostage.” It was claimed that Pitt grabbed and shook his wife and even pushed her into the wall and punched the aircraft’s ceiling. 

When Jolie said it appeared that Pitt was “going to attack” one of their children for calling him a “prick,” she admitted to wrapping Pitt in a chokehold. 

Jolie described Pitt as a “monster” during the ride as he “ranted” and “mimicked the behavior of a monster and screamed at them.” She and the children were “shell-shocked” the entire time, while Jolie was “frozen, scared and didn’t know what to do” then. 

Jolie said Pitt had incurred damage to the tune of about $25,000 on the plane because of red wine stains. She also claimed that Pitt poured beer on her. The actress said she also sustained injuries to her back and elbow, including a “rug-burn type wound.” 

In 2016, the FBI and the DCFS closed its investigation due to lack of evidence. 

A source told People Magazine that the document was “nothing new” as both parties had known about it for years.

“It was investigated and there were no charges brought. It’s standard for these type of things to not be released. Both parties had it,” the source confirmed. “There is no benefit to this. It is harmful to the children and the entire family for this to be made public.”

Jolie has since deeply reflected on the aftermath of the split from Pitt.

“I’m not the kind of person who makes decisions like the decisions I had to make lightly. It took a lot for me to be in a position where I felt I had to separate from the father of my children,” she told The Guardian.

In 2021, Jolie was spotted with Canadian singer Abel Tesfaye, commonly known as The Weeknd. The two were spotted at the Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California. 

Elle Magazine reported that the unlikely couple was spotted twice, including the 2021 outing. Notably, Tesfaye is 24 years younger than Jolie. 

Many of the singer’s fans believed the two had a short romantic relationship because of a cryptic reference to the romance in his song “Here We Go... Again.”

“My new girl, she a movie star / I loved her right, make her scream like Neve Campbell / But when I make her laugh, swear it cures my depressin’ thoughts / ’Cause baby girl, she a movie star / Baby girl, she a movie star / I told myself that I’d never fall,” the song lyrics read. 

Jolie and Pitt were declared legally single in 2019, although their divorce proceedings have yet to conclude fully. After the split, Pitt has been linked to MIT professor Neri Oxman, models Nicole Poturalski and Emily Ratajkowski, and jewelry magnate Ines De Ramon.

Jolie, meanwhile, focused on her fashion line, Atelier Jolie, and spoke to Vogue in 2023 about it. The actress also delved into how she and the kids have navigated life after the split. Jolie recounted how becoming a mom had changed her life. She shared:

“Having children saved me — and taught me to be in this world differently. I think, recently, I would’ve gone under in a much darker way had I not wanted to live for them. They’re better than me, because you want your children to be.”

The star revealed that she wanted all her children to be their own persons, down to their fashion choices and how they define themselves. The star noted that she never told her children what to wear, even when they were much younger. 

Diving into more emotional topics, Jolie said she felt “a bit down these days. The star added, “I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade, in a way, which I don’t want to get into.” Alluding to her messy split from Pitt, she shared:

“We had a lot of healing to do. We’re still finding our footing. I think part of this has also been therapeutic for me — to work in a creative space with people you trust and to rediscover yourself.”

Jolie shared that she drew on her struggles in creating Atelier Jolie and hoped that wearing its pieces would allow women to feel safe enough to be soft, even when they still had their “armor” on. However, she conceded that she was still working on being strong enough to be soft, as she still felt vulnerable due to her past struggles.
