According to Variety, Cowell needed to be hospitalized on August 8th when he was testing out a new bicycle in his Malibu home and was thrown from the bike and broke his back. He is now recovering from surgery.

He has been grateful for the support he has received from fans and thanked the doctors and nurses who have been caring for him calling them "Some of the nicest people I have ever met."

The 42-year-old actor, who rose to fame through hit 90s sitcom Kenan & Kel, is said to be further developing his connection to NBC with his new comedy series “Kenan” which, according to Deadline, will air during 2020/21 season. The show will focus on a recently widowed host of Atlanta’s number 2 morning show played by Thompson.
