Adam Sandler Let His Two Daughters Write His Acceptance Speech And They Nailed It

Adam Sandler is known for being a pretty funny guy and has starred in many comedies to prove just how hilarious he truly is. The actor has made a successful career for himself, finding his footing as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” from 1990 until 1995 before going on to star in a plethora of box office hits. Some of his most notable movies include “Billy Madison,” “Happy Gilmore,” “The Wedding Singer,” and “50 First Dates.”

His wit, comedic timing, and ability to be an adorable goofball have made him a standout in the comedy world. While Sandler is mostly known for his sense of humor, he has also shown a more romantic side of himself in his films, starring alongside several beautiful and talented actresses, including Jennifer Aniston, Salma Hayek, and Drew Barrymore, to name a few. 

However, his off-screen romance is by far the most beautiful one Sandler has shown the world, as he has been married to his wife for nearly two decades and has known her for even longer. 

Sandler is married to his longtime partner Jacqueline Titone – now known as Jackie Sandler. Jackie first got her start in the entertainment industry through modeling both nationally and internationally before going on to appear in a handful of films, including many alongside her now-husband.

While their partnership and eventual marriage in 2003 might have been the greatest love story Sandler had experienced, surely having their two beautiful daughters is another blissful experience. 

On Nov. 28, 2022, Sandler brought the house down with his hilarious acceptance speech at the 2022 Gotham Awards, all written by his two daughters, Sadie, 16, and Sunny, 14 – proving that they have inherited their father’s impeccable wit and natural ability to make people laugh. 

Sandler was born on Sept. 9, 1966, in Brooklyn, New York, to a Jewish family. He moved to Manchester, New Hampshire, at the age of 6 and joined BBYO, a Jewish youth group. He later returned to New York to attend the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and graduated from the program in 1988.

He began performing around the same time as his graduation from the esteemed school, appearing in “The Cosby Show” in 1987 before going on to make his film debut in “Going Overboard” in 1989. It wasn’t long before Sandler really began showing people what he was capable of as a comedian, and he was hired as a writer for “Saturday Night Live” in 1990. He became a featured star on the show the following year. 

In the latter part of the decade, Sandler met her wife-to-be, Jackie as his co-star in the 1999 film “Big Daddy.” Their courtship was brief – from their introduction in the late 1990s to tying the knot just a few years later in 2003. 

Three years later, Jackie and Adam welcomed their daughter Sadie into the family, which had Adam taking on his greatest role yet, a father. "[Fatherhood’s] fun. It’s great. I love that kid … I was dying to do it,” he told People Magazine at the time. Their youngest, Sunny, came in 2008. 

Speaking dearly about him becoming a father, Sandler had this to say to Huffington Post in 2014: “My kids give me the most joy, but there are life adjustments. I don’t go out to meet anyone after 9:30 at night. I eat dinner at 6 or 7. If someone makes me stay out until 10:30 at night, I’m angry the entire next day because I’m exhausted,” he revealed.

Attending the 32nd Annual Gotham Awards, Sandler had everyone at the ceremony laughing with his rather well-thought-out speech. But unlike any other speeches he has given, the speech wasn’t written by him – his silly daughters Sadie and Sunny took on the job after Sandle said he was too “tired” to write it. 

“Dear well-dressed dignitaries, highly educated hipsters, and various other plus-ones of the Gotham Awards. Thank you for giving our daddy, Mr. Adam Sandler, this prestigious lifetime, all-time, primetime G.O.A.T. achievement tribute award,” Sandler said in a muffled voice. “Or whatever this frankly disturbing object is supposed to f–––king represent. 

Elsewhere in Sandler’s speech, his kids also gave everyone at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York City a peek at what happens inside the Sandler household while their father is out and about.

“While daddy is with you tonight, we’re doing everything we’re not allowed to do when daddy is home, like eat his Yodels or try on his Spanx or, dare we say, laugh out loud at Ben Stiller movies,” he continued to read. “The last time daddy caught us chuckling away at the ‘Meet the Parents’ trilogy, he immediately stormed into the room he calls ‘The Screaming Room,’ which we just call ‘the shower,’ and bellowed out the phrase, ‘Only the Sandman makes people laugh. F––k every other comedian.’”

The Gotham Awards is one of the many award-giving bodies that recognize independent filmmakers and their art masterpieces. It is a part of the Gotham Film & Media Institute, the largest membership organization in the United States dedicated to independent film.

Sandler, who had been a highly-recognized fixture in comedy and film in general, received the Performer Tribute Award, one of the biggest awards given out in the three-decades-long ceremony.
