When it comes to iconic science fiction films, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” is definitely at the top of the list for many movie lovers. The film was originally released back in 1982 and was produced and directed by Steven Spielberg. The film helped launch the career of up-and-coming child star Drew Barrymore. It also helped elevate the careers of other actors and actresses including Robert MacNaughton, Henry Thomas, Peter Coyote and Dee Wallace.

Many people are very aware of Barrymore’s career over the years as she is still extremely popular in the spotlight today. She went on to find success in adulthood as well, landing leading roles in many movies throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including "50 First Dates," "Never Been Kissed" and "Charlie's Angels." Barrymore has also received a handful of awards and award nominations over the course of her career.

However, she is not the only star who has gone on to find more fame following “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” Wallace is one of these actresses. She was born on Dec. 14, 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas, and is best known for her role as Mary Taylor in the popular science fiction film, in which she played the mother of Barrymore’s character.

While Wallace had already showcased many aspects of her talent prior to “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” she continued acting in the following years. However, not many people are aware of her career trajectory and what she is up to nowadays. In fact, in April 2022, Wallace reunited with Barrymore in honor of the 40th anniversary of "E.T: the Extra-Terrestrial."

Prior to landing the role of Mary Taylor in “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” Wallace already had some experience in the acting world. She had appeared in several horror films including “The Hills Have Eyes” in 1977 and “The Howling” in 1981.

However, acting wasn’t always her main career. She had previously gone on to obtain a higher education at the University of Kansas, where she earned a degree in education. After this, Wallace taught high school drama classes at Washington High School in Kansas City in the early 1970s.

Around this time, Wallace began shifting away from teaching and instead began making a career for herself in acting. She first started out on television appearing in episodes of shows such as “The Streets of San Francisco” and “Police Woman.” It wasn’t long before she ventured into film and landed her legendary role in “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.”

Following her memorable role in Spielberg’s science fiction phenomenon, Wallace went on to continue her time in the spotlight specifically as a scream queen in more horror films including “Cujo” in 1983 and “Critters” in 1986.

She married actor Christopher Stone in 1980 and the two welcomed a daughter named Gabrielle Stone in 1988. Gabrielle has since gone on to become an actress. Wallace and Christopher also worked alongside each other in “Cujo.” However, the latter suddenly passed away in 1995.

While Wallace has certainly had a great career in the acting industry over the years, she has also gone on to share her words of wisdom with others and continue to inspire others along the way.

Wallace also reconnected with her former castmate and on-screen daughter Barrymore on an episode of "The Drew Barrymore Show." The show first aired on Sept. 14, 2020, and has had a number of famous guests along the way.

On Apr. 18, 2022, Barrymore and Wallace reconnected on the show and reflected on their time in “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” as well as what their current lives looked like. It was a heartwarming moment for the two to reunite while celebrating the 40th anniversary of the film.

During Wallace’s appearance on the show, both she and Barrymore were very emotional as they rejuvenated their mother-daughter bond, even if they were only related on-screen. “You’re so ever-present with me,” Barrymore told Wallace.

Wallace revealed that she was still a working actress, which is evident by her booming IMDb page, which highlights all of the projects Wallace has undertaken. The thriving actress also started a healing practice where she teaches people about “self-love” – something that Barrymore definitely resonated with. Wallace’s website is dedicated to showing off more of her self-love journey and helping others learn how to love themselves more, too.

Wallace took to Instagram on the same day that she appeared on "The Drew Barrymore Show," where she uploaded a photo alongside Barrymore to commemorate their friendly reunion. The caption read:

“My heart was so touched visiting @drewbarrymore on her show. She has such a genuine love that emanates out to everyone. A real ❤️ experience!”

It’s clear that both Wallace and Barrymore have made a real impact on not only the entertainment industry but the people they have worked with along the way.
