World War II changed history in a huge way. We should all take the time to learn more about this fascinating time in history. We owe a lot of gratitude to all of the men and women who served and fought for our freedom so many years ago.
We are still pretty lucky to have a lot of veterans with us today. They can share their stories with us to keep their memories alive and strong. Sadly, too many of these war heroes are passing away as time goes on. Most vets from WWII are now in their 90s and beyond.
You may wonder just what you can do to thank a vet for his or her service. After all, just saying thanks never seems to be enough! But now you can join in on one fun way to say thank you to a vet who is having a birthday. Are you ready to learn how?

A birthday card! That's right, one vet from Watauga, Texas just wants birthday cards to celebrate his 100th birthday on October 7th, 2019. The 100-year-old doesn't want anything expensive or odd; instead, he simply wants birthday cards.
James South is a proud vet of WWII and posted that he would be turning 100 next month. He lives in an assisted living facility called Brookdale Watauga. Staff at the center are helping him by posting a picture of James holding a sign on their Facebook page.
CNN found out more about James after the story went viral. The proud vet came from a family of sharecroppers in Texas. In 1940 he enlisted in the United States Army. Just seven days after the D-Day invasion, James was sent to Normandy.
The vet told the news that he received letters every day from his girlfriend when he was deployed. Even though he was deployed for four years, she made sure that she wrote to him every single day he was gone. When he returned home, the two were married. Their marriage lasted a stunning 55 years.
Do you want to help make his dream come true? Just grab a birthday card and send it on. We are hoping he gets more cards than he could've ever dreamed of!
