Dogs continue to demonstrate just how awesome they are and how they are capable of doing amazing things. Internet videos are replete with examples of them saving their owners' lives, saving babies, animals, waking families up to alert them of a fire or other dangers, and doing a ton of other great feats.
In this video from 2017, a cat appears to be in a body of water and struggling, with things looking like it might drown. Then the unimaginable happens—a dog carries the poor kitty out to safety! Maybe dogs and cats do get along more than they have humans believing!

If cats could talk, there is one out there who would agree that his life was spared due to the courageous efforts of another furry comrade. Somehow the black-and-white patterned kitty got in a body of water without an adequate ability to swim. Though he was thrashing about trying to stay afloat, his efforts were futile. He was going to drown.
Divine providence, luck, right place at the right time? However, you choose to sum it up, this kitty had not yet used up his nine lives. Thankfully, a brave dog was nearby, and without hesitation, jumped in the water to save the cat.

The video shows the relieved cat riding atop the dog's back as he swims towards the shore.
When the dog reaches the land, the cat jumps off of his back and focuses his attention on his hero. In what appears to be a recognition of what had occurred, the cat stared at the dog without running away. Could it be that he knew in his heart that he had gained a new friend? That dog risked his own life to save him, and the way he looked at the dog seemed to show amazement and appreciation.
On the other hand, the hero dog seemed to have taken it all in stride. He got safely to shore and with a fierce shaking, got rid of the excess water on his body. "Ahn, all in a day's work," his body movement suggested.
There is no way to determine if dogs know just how incredibly smart, loyal, competent, and necessary they are to mankind. They deserve man's best efforts for all they do for them. Some dog owners consider their loyal furry friends to be not just a pet, but an actual member of the family, complete with first and last names.
The added value they bring to the lives of their owners cannot be measured with money. They offer comfort and joy, and their keen ability to sense danger and do something about it can make the difference between life and death.
