Genius comes in all sizes and ages. In 2018, an 8-year-old girl from Mexico named Xóchitl Guadalupe Cruz created a device that can heat water using only the power of the sun. It's a game-changer for her family and much of the world. For her achievements, she received the Woman Prize of the Nuclear Science Institute (ICN).

Xóchitl Guadalupe Cruz comes from the Chiapas region of Mexico, according to teleSUR. Her family didn't have access to hot water unless they cut up logs and build a fire. But fires release fumes into the environment. It also leads to deforestation, which is already a problem in many impoverished areas of the world.

This young girl built a device that uses both recycled and recyclable materials, as teleSUR details. She has always enjoyed working on science projects and competitions. She is learning how to take her knowledge of science and technology, and make practical changes to her home and to the rest of the world.

She won the UNAM’s Institute of Nuclear Sciences award for her device, as GlobalCitizen.org reports. It has the potential of bringing a solar-powered water heater to people around the world. It will help slow down deforestation while letting people enjoy a hot bath or hot water for cleaning.

Right now, her family has it installed on their roof and it provides hot water for the entire home. Xóchitl is not stopping at that though, she is reportedly looking to improve the heater by making it larger with solar panels, reports El Universal.

She was only 8 years old at the time. With her and many others like her, our world seems a lot brighter. What do you think of Xóchitl's invention? How could it impact the world?
