8-Week-Old Baby Girl Said Words To Her Mommy

How often should you have conversations with your children? Many parents recommend doing it often, in order to help with their development. It makes a world of difference when you sit with them to have a chat, even if you aren’t sure that they understand you.

A 2018 video captures an 8-week-old baby girl interacting with her mom. She seems to be saying “I love you”—but is she, really? Do you hear “I love you” or simple baby noises?

This interaction is a great way for their little brains to begin comprehending sights and sounds, as well as bonding time with Mom and Dad. The babies make warm memories they can hang onto when they’re older.

The clip reopened a debate about what you hear when babies talk. Are they making sounds, unable to form words? Or are saying things like ‘I love you’ because they hear their parents say it?

If talking to your baby strengthens her mind, how do you go about doing it? There are lots of ways. Many people recommend treating them like adults, talking to them about your day, and listening to their responses. Reading to them makes a difference, as well. In talking to your baby, you’re helping in the long run.

An article in the Atlantic sheds some light on this mystery:

“Such early utterances have a lot of social work to do—they’re more about enabling an interaction than about referring to something specific. So it seems as if ka (baby sounds) was less an act of naming than the on-switch for a shared experience.”

Whether or not you think this baby is saying I love you, the fact she is trying to communicate is a sign of her brain developing. Soon she’ll be talking just like Mom, asking “Why?” questions and exploring the world, hopefully with her parents’ guidance.

What do you think about the meaning of a baby’s first sounds? They’re adorable, but can they be classified as conversation? Check out the article and drop your opinion. The precious video alone is sure to brighten your day!
