A group of dedicated artists has constructed a massive alligator in Garyville, Louisiana. The colossal structure has been built out of wood right along the great Mississippi River Levee. A town that hasn't received a lot of attention in the past has been seeing significant reporting from the media due to the unfathomable size of this statue.

According to Local 12 News, this huge gator has been constructed to celebrate the local Christmas Eve bonfire that takes place each year around the St. James Parish area. The alligator statue has been measured at a ridiculous 78-feet from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail. In fact, it looks like more of a dinosaur than a giant alligator.

Although outsiders are just now seeing this impressive structure for the first time, this event takes place annually in the area according to the news station. It's even an event shared amongst locals of neighboring towns including Lutcher and Paulina.

If the weather permits, the alligator bonfire is intended to start around 7 PM CST on Christmas Eve. There will be many other large structures set on fire as well. The creators of the wooden alligator told Local 12 News, setting the alligator on fire helps celebrate all their hard work.
