One little boy is defying gender norms and upending stereotypes – simply by doing what he loves!
With over 660,000 followers on Instagram, where he posts under the name “bossbabybrody,” 7-year-old Brody Hudson has kept viewers entertained for years with his spectacular dance moves and emotive performances. The dancing sensation has even appeared on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” where he and his mother, Danielle Schaffer, spoke about his early start in dance and their shared passion for music.
“I honestly think it happened in the womb. He started dancing in the womb. I always listened to music. We listen to music in our house, like 24 hours a day. We love music, and he's a late walker to be honest. So he was about, 18 months when he started to walk. But the dancing, I say, started at 12 months. He was moving his body like nobody,” Danielle explained, adding the “musicality behind his movements” stunned her.
When questioned by Clarkson about his favorite moves, Brody replied confidently, “I love to point my toe, I love jazz, and I love hip-hop, and to turn and shake my body.”
Schaffer also told Popsugar she felt Brody was born to dance, and she and her family, including Brody’s sister and two brothers, always encouraged and supported him.
“Brody is a born ballet dancer. He hasn't had any professional training yet, but he moves his feet like he's been dancing for years… He's the epitome of the word 'natural.' I have been messaged by so many professional dancers telling me that what he can do is crazy. I honestly can't get him to stop. He dances all day through the night. Dancing brings him joy, and it truly brings the world joy," she said.

Brody is also breaking boundaries with his magnetic persona. Free to be his genuine self, the youngster discovered a love for dresses after rifling through his sister’s closet and hasn’t looked back since. His mom recounted Brody’s first time putting on a dress to Good Morning America in 2021 and said:
“He put on his sister’s dress. Like any kid does, he, you know, was exploring and went into her closet and put on a dress and came out and started to dance. And the way he was dancing was something I hadn’t seen before. And it was like he just exuded all this passion. And it was just a beautiful moment.”
Schaffer said it didn’t occur to her to explain gender and societal norms as she “didn’t think it was necessary.”
Videos of Brody dancing in skirts and dresses, including one of him dressed in Belle’s iconic gown from “Beauty and the Beast” while dancing with his father dressed as the Beast, have been a hit with viewers, who were taken by his confidence, enthusiasm and authenticity.
Schaffer admitted she “had some folks message me very hateful stuff about how Brody should be in boy clothes and playing with trucks,” but that her child’s happiness always comes first.
“I feel like it's so important to just be you because you are enough. It doesn't have to conform to what society says is normal. If Brody wants to wear pink, we're here for it. If Brody wants to wear glitter, we'll make sure he leaves glitter in his footsteps as he walks. We just want to support our children and let them know that they are enough,” Schaffer told GMA.
“What matters the most is your child’s happiness. Is your child happy and how could you support their individuality?”
