7 Causes Of Fatigue Not Related To Lack Of Sleep

Jul 13, 2018 by apost team

Do you find yourself fighting fatigue no matter how many hours of sleep you get at night? Well, you are not alone. It is often an uphill battle trying to stay alert during the day when all you really want to do is find the nearest pillow and sleep your troubles away. We are always told that they key to surviving a full day without a nap is just to go to bed a bit earlier. WRONG! And to be quite frank, we are sick of hearing that faulty solution.

Here are 7 reasons that you are tired all the time and they have NOTHING to do with sleep.

1. You Are Anemic

It super common for a person to have anemia and not even know it! Anemia is a disorder in which the body doesn't have enough healthy red blood cells to carry an adequate amount of oxygen to the body's tissues. The effects can leave you feeling really weak and extremely drowsy. Taking a daily multivitamin can help you control your anemia, but ignoring your symptoms can lead to them worsening.

2. You Are Dehydrated

If you are not a fan of drinking water, this is probably the cause of your tiredness. Not only does water help regulate your blood sugar, but it also maintains your body's oxygen levels. Water is like your body's fuel. If you aren't consuming enough, your body will ultimately break down and an array of other issues may arise. If you find yourself nodding off at work, skip out on the coffee and find yourself a glass of water.

3. You Have Diabetes

You may be a victim of type 2 diabetes and may not even be aware of it. With type 2 diabetes, your body does not produce the adequate amount of insulin to maintain a proper glucose level. Glucose, or sugar, serves as "fuel" for the cells making up the muscles and tissue within the body, and when it is in deprivation one can experience an increased amount of hunger and thirst, frequent bodily infections, and of course - extreme fatigue.

4. You Are Depressed

Having a case of the blues can leave you feeling depleted of energy. It is important to understand that your mental, emotional, and physical states are all connected. If one is off, it will usually affect the others causing a complete imbalance. No case of depression is the same, but changes within the sleeping pattern and decreased energy is a pretty common result - and it is nearly impossible to achieve a full night of "rest" if your mind is not at ease. You will presumably wake up in a funk like the night before.

5. You Have A Poor Diet

I hate to bear bad news, but not providing your body with proper nourishment will drain your energy faster than you think. Pay attention to the foods that you consume. Are they filled with artificial sugars and empty carbohydrates? If so, than there is your culprit. Replace the chips and candy with more fruits and vegetables to keep you energized throughout the day.

6. You Have Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition in which your throat closes during your sleep. This leads to your body not getting enough oxygen; in turn you constantly wake up during the night. Not only does the frequent disruptions lead you to feel lethargic, but your body rarely gets to reach the restorative stages of the sleep cycle.

7. You Have A Thyroid Disorder

The thyroid is vital to your health as it produces hormones that control your body's metabolism. Having an imbalance within the thyroid drastically affects the way the body uses energy. Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the body produces too little of the thyroid hormone causing the metabolism to slow down; this results in fatigue and other problems associated with sleeping.
