Being foster parents might be hard for some couples, especially when they take care of a kid for a long time to the point where they get emotionally attached to them and would have a hard time letting them go.
However, there were some foster parents who decided to take in the kid that they had been giving love to for months or even years.
This is exactly what happened to a 6-year-old boy named Harvey from Smithfield, North Carolina, as he got the biggest surprise of his life after his guardians, Brian and Megan Raby, decided to welcome him as an official part of their family.
According to USA Today, the kid had been with the couple since he was 2 years old.
His entire reaction was posted on Humankind’s Facebook page in July 2023, where countless people shared their love and support for the boy.
In the clip, Megan told her newly-adopted son that something special happened the day prior. The little kid appeared to be clueless, as he had no idea what was coming next.
Brian later came and put out a sign which read “Harvey Jeffrey Raby, Forever Ours.”
The dad repeated the words on the sign, but for the young boy, he still didn’t have a clue about what was happening.
“How about Harvey is officially adopted,” the dad said, while Harvey exclaimed and visibly surprised, “I’m adopted right now?!”
Brian then explained that they were the ones who adopted him, and the adoption process became official the day prior.
The little boy appeared to be holding back his tears as he asked his new mom if he was going to stay at their home.
He later celebrated by jumping up and down while he happily said the word “yay!” He then proceeded to give Megan a big hug toward the end of the video.
The comment section was filled with love and support, and many online users commended the foster parents, who are now the official adoptive parents of Harvey.
“Yay for you, Harvey! Yay for your mom and dad because they get to be your parents and see you grow up. You look like a very sweet boy and I am so happy for you and your family,” one wrote.
“Love this! So happy for you all!” one commented, while another one wrote, “That's great news! Best wishes.”
Another user said they were glad for the little boy as they wrote, “So happy for that little boy.”
Despite the positive comments, there was one person who pointed out that the child must be present for adoption day, but it varies by state.
“I don't know what state they're in but in my state, a child has to be present for adoption day,” the user wrote.
Another commenter called them out as they told them not to “throw negativity” to the video.
The user then shared her defense and noted that she underwent the adoption process twice. She added, “I am 100% for this child. He's in a very good place. Just seemed odd because this is a very big celebration in our court system. All the best for the official family.”
