Being a hero doesn’t have to be of a certain standard. It doesn’t come in a specific age, size, or even shape. One 6-year-old boy did the unthinkable and was praised by online users for his heroic actions.
As posted on the Kansas Wildlife & Parks — Game Wardens' official Facebook page in July 2023, the community commended a young boy named Levi Alley after his quick-thinking skills managed to save another kid.
In the photo, Levi could be seen posing with two officers for a snap after the incident. To give people a background, it was explained in the caption that the boy alerted adults after he witnessed a 5-year-old kid drowning at El Dorado Reservoir’s Walnut Swim Beach.
They expressed their gratitude to Levi for his attentiveness and quick response as the boy who drowned was immediately rescued and unharmed.
In an interview with 12 News, Levi’s parents, Matt and Rachel Alley, recalled what happened the day their son noticed someone drowning in the lake.
Matt said he and his family were sitting by the water and doing their own thing then their son started yelling. When he turned around, he saw two little hands sticking out of the water.
On the other hand, Rachel said they were the closest adults to the water, so they immediately jumped into the water to grab the kid.
Levi also spoke with the outlet and revealed that he loudly told people that a kid was drowning in the water. Fortunately, many adults were able to hear him, so they gathered quickly.

It appears that Levi has always been an attentive kid, as his father said in the interview, “He’s always been pretty safety-minded and been a good helper when it comes to stuff like that. Thank God that he was there to let everybody know because it happens really fast.
As a reward, the young boy received a shirt, stickers, and pins from the Kansas Wildlife & Parks.
Matt later shared a warning to other parents to always keep an eye on their children, especially when they swim in a body of water.
“It just as easily could have been one of our kids or anybody else out there that wasn’t paying attention for a few seconds, it’s really all it takes.”
After Levi’s photo went viral online, many users commended him for his actions. One person wrote, “What a special blessing you are to so many, Levi! Great you were watching & aware of your surroundings. Because of that, you not only saved a life, but you brought many blessings to so many.”
Another one commented, “So proud of you, Levi! God put you in the right place at the right time.”
Although the little boy received positive comments from many people, there were also users who asked where the parents or guardians of the 5-year-old boy who almost drowned were at the time.
“My question is where were the adults that should have been watching the five year old in the first place? It only takes a second for someone to start drowning and in not very deep water,” one wrote.
“I'm wondering why the 5 year old was in the water with no adult supervision?” another one asked.
