“Dressing well is a form of good manners,” according to Tom Ford. No one expects you to suddenly hit the scene with an impeccable good taste in fashion, but there are certainly some tips and tricks you can follow to make sure you’re always putting your best foot forward.
Here are some simple rules that will guarantee you always look neat, appropriate, and even stylish for all occasions:
1. The middle button on a suit jacket should always be closed, and the lower one should always be open. The upper one depends on your mood.

2. When wearing a shirt or a blouse, never unbutton more than two buttons.
3. Don’t layer on accessories. Either wear earrings that match a bracelet or a necklace that pairs well with a ring.
4. The tip of your tie should reach your waist and overlap your belt a little.
5. Choose either a miniskirt or cleavage, but never both at the same time.
6. You don’t need a tie if you’re wearing a shirt without a jacket.
7. Cleavage at the office shouldn’t be deeper than 4” from your collarbone.
8. If you tuck in your shirt, wear a belt.
9. When wearing a cardigan with jeans, no skin should be visible. Layer a top underneath.
10. Your belt and shoes should always match.
11. Cut off all visible tags on clothes.
12. Avoid too many prints. Try mixing two prints in the same color, or two coordinating prints in different sizes.
13. Wear socks that are long enough to cover your ankles and legs while sitting.
14. Don’t wear spaghetti straps in the office. Opt for a sleeveless blouse that covers your shoulders.
