13-Year-Old Busker Freezes Crowd In Their Tracks With Rendition Of 'Shallow' From 'A Star Is Born'

For musicians, music is a way of life, and for those wishing to make a career out of their passion, they all have to start somewhere. Some people get their start by playing live in venues, while others prefer to perform on the street, often out in daylight for all to see. Unfortunately, not every busker is a world-class act, but sometimes you get lucky and come across someone who just blows you away.

The people of Dublin were treated to a surprise musical performance in Nov. 2018 and thankfully it was captured on camera so the entire world could enjoy it too. It was no novice performing that day, but it was someone rather young — 13 years old to be exact.

Allie Sherlock might be young but she has the talent of someone well beyond her years. Not only that but she's already made a name for herself street performing, so much so that her cover of Ed Sheeran's "Supermarket Flowers" catapulted her to fame and even landed her a spot on "The Ellen Degeneres Show."

In this performance from 2018, Allie covers Lady Gaga's hit song "Shallow" from the movie "A Star Is Born." Allie's talent is obvious from the moment she begins strumming her guitar, but once she begins singing there's no denying her vocal skills and star power. Now aged 16, Allie is taking her talents to new heights, as she has a booming following on her YouTube channel, with over 4.5 million followers, and various collaborations behind her belt. 

If Allie Sherlock seems familiar, you may have seen the teen online or even on TV. Her YouTube channel boasts over 4.5 million followers, and she's also appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show. Often performing on Dublin's Grafton Street, at this point it's impossible to know if her relative fame lured passersby on this day, or if the appeal of the song accounted for making people stop in their tracks.

In the video posted to her channel on Nov. 5, 2018 — when Allie was just 13 years old — she takes on the beloved song "Shallow," which was originally performed by Lady Gaga in the movie "A Star Is Born." She begins by strumming her guitar before her deep and strong vocals start singing the song's lyrics. Her performance is impressive in any case, but when you consider how old she is it is mind-boggling just how much talent she already has. Not only that but how in control she is of her own vocals.

In the video, a crowd gathers around her, clearly mesmerized by the show she's putting on. Many have their phones out recording the performance, while we're lucky that Allie filmed it and put it online herself. When she finishes the heartfelt ballad the crowd instantly erupts in applause.

Since it was uploaded the video has garnered over 16.5 million views, which is an incredible feat. But even more impressive is that it's not even Allie's most-watched video! That would be her cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean," which was a duet with Fabio Rodrigues, that has nearly 50 million views!

Viewers of Allie's cover of "Shallow" are absolutely enthralled with the teen's performance. One woman commented:

"This actually left me speechless. wow. 👏🏼 "

Meanwhile, another wrote:

"Your voice makes me cry. Why am I crying??? Your voice is beautifully broken but can carry any note any way you want it to."

Allie's voice has so much emotion in it that it's impossible not to feel something from her performance. If you couldn't already tell from her stunning rendition of "Shallow," Allie is no one-hit-wonder. She has many amazing performances on her YouTube channel, which were mostly recorded while she was performing live on Grafton Street in Dublin. Her fame has only continued to rise and it's entirely warranted — at this point, Allie is nearly a household name and she deserves every bit of success that she will surely have in her life ahead of her. 

Grafton Street is one of the most famous fairs in Dublin and has become somewhat of a right of passage for many performers in the area. The "stop rate", i.e. how many people stop what they're doing to watch you perform, is often the mark of success. As is apparent in all of her videos, Allie's stop rate is off the charts with countless shoppers seeming to forget all of the plans of their day to give credence to her incredible voice.

Now just 16, it's awe-inspiring to think what Allie will achieve in her life considering she hasn't even finished school yet. With a loyal following already, Allie is destined for megastardom, and who knows, maybe even one day she'll collaborate with Lady Gaga herself!
