12 Things To Stop Being Ashamed Of In Your Life
Aug 10, 2018 by apost team
As a result of living in a society of critics, many people live a life of shame. We aren’t able to live our lives and truly appreciate it for what it is. While under the scrutiny of society, lives are judged based on an idea of what a normal life should be. Therefore, people find shame in how they live their lives and sometimes shame for the people living in their life. Follow along as we list the 12 things you should stop being ashamed of.
1. Personal Care And Self-Love
It’s not hard to find yourself overly caring for others or attempting to make those around you happy while neglecting your very own needs. Making sure the needs of everyone around you are met or going to lengths to ensure your friends and family are satisfied can take all day. This leaves no time for you to care for yourself and find your own happiness. Indulging in selfcare can take the form of taking yourself out to dinner, following through with a planned vacation to help you relax, get a massage or bundle up at home with a new book. Selfcare is important for your well-being.

2. Expressing Your Emotions
Emotions are real and play a vital role in how we communicate with one another. You should feel free to express your emotions without being ashamed. Cognitive therapy helps you better understand your emotions and those who use it do a better job at managing their emotions than those who don’t use it. When you are able to manage your emotions well, you are less likely to be manipulated or be a victim of negative moods.
3. Your Choice Of Friends And Partner
It is not rare to find a loved one outside of your natural family. The people you spend your life with and those who you invest your time in is your choice. Jim Rohn’s law of averages states that you are very similar to the five people you invest most of your time and energy in. It is better to spend time with those who make you happy and actively contribute to your growth and development as an individual.
4. Your Career Path
Many people are fixated on the choices you make when choosing your career. With all of the criticism from others about what you should be doing for a living, your choice becomes more difficult if you worry about what others think of the career path you have chosen for yourself. It is important to remember why you started in the career you have chosen and how you are impacting the world in a positive way by remaining in that career.
5. Being Able To Forgive
The act of forgiveness should not be something you are ashamed of. When you forgive, you free yourself from the past and allow yourself to live abundantly in the present. This doesn’t mean that the act requiring forgiveness is okay to be done again. When you forgive, you give yourself a gift by setting yourself free.
6. Never Losing Hope
It is often said that you find happiness in the things and people you love, what you are able to do and being able to freely hope for what is to come. Sometimes your hope is challenged by negative people who insist that you must be “realistic” and “logical” about life and the future. Positive thinking that includes having something to hope for is known to have a number of health-related benefits. Some benefits of having something to hope for include: decreased levels of stress, a life of longevity and better skills for coping. Don’t lose hope.
7. Having An Optimistic Mind
Though every day may not be your best, you have to remember to not let the bad days out rule the good. You can never be truly prepared for a bad day and most times they happen without warning. With an optimistic mind, you are able to acknowledge that one bad day isn’t the end of your life. Better days are to come. With each new bad day that presents itself to you, there will be a growth in your personal strength as you continue to have a positive mind.
8. Knowing Who You Are
Upon reaching old age, many people have shared their biggest regrets. One of the most expressed regrets is not living life while fully embracing who they are in their uniqueness. When you are always worried about what others are thinking of you or what they could possibly think of you in response to your actions, you forget to be you. Be courageous and embrace who you are now, to the fullest.
9. Your Past That Made You Who You Are
Some may say that the biggest teacher in life is experience and with experience comes wisdom. As you live your life, you are going to experience ups and downs. You may even have moments that you wish you could change or have another go at. Though you may not be able to change your past, you are now equipped with knowledge and tools from your past that will aid you in creating a better life for your future self.
10. Embracing Every Part Of Yourself
Social standards for men and women have been around forever. Constantly you hear about the beautiful physical features of well-known public figures. As a result of the attention given to the topic, both women and men desire to have those same bodily features and begin to feel that if they don’t look the same way then they aren’t beautiful. No one person will ever be perfect. If you want to truly be happy, embrace every part of you and disregard the standards.
11. Enjoying What You Eat
Whether you love eating a diet full of fruits and vegetables or if you are a high protein meat eater, it is okay for you to choose the best diet that suits your lifestyle. Though others may try to discourage you from your diet, your body knows exactly what it needs. You have freedom in making sure your body gets those things.
12. Always Doing Your Best
Living a life full of happiness is all anyone can ask for. Sometimes in order to achieve this, you must invest your time, energy and hard work. Investing what it takes isn’t always the easiest, however, all that matters is that you do your best. No one can take that away from you, though they may try. Striving to live up to your best is a wonderful accomplishment.
