12 Reasons Why Your Cousin Is Actually Your Best Friend

Friends may come and go but cousins are for life.

“A cousin is a ready-made friend for life.”

This is one of those quotes I can totally relate with. I truly believe that cousins have a deep connection, a bond that is unbreakable.

1.They are the perfect best friends

Cousins are usually the first friends you have as a child and if you are lucky,  they grow up to be your best buddies. They are always there for you.

2. They are literally a part of your family

You share the same opinions about certain family members and have a common favorite aunt that you love to visit. You are always crashing at each other’s place and your parents don’t mind at all. If it weren’t for each other, you would have died of boredom at family get-togethers. You have your own set of inside jokes that make you laugh out loud even today.

3. They love you and accept you for who you are

Cousins don’t judge each other. They judge other people together. They have literally known you since day one and understand you on all levels. They accept you just the way you are and cherish you no matter how weird you can get.

4. They are honest to your face

Your cousin always has your best interest at heart which is why they will be brutally honest with you. They will make your boyfriend jump through hoops and pass every test in the book before they approve. It is because they always want you to have the best of everything.

5. You have shared your wardrobe with them

You never hesitated to share your clothes and accessories etc. with your favorite cousin. You probably even had matching dresses as kids just like twins!

6. They are your human journal

They were the first to know about your crushes in school and also about the first break up. You have always told them all your embarrassing high school stories and shared your weird experiences. They know all of your childhood secrets.

7. They have probably seen you naked - comfort level soulmate

The naked bubble baths, spilling the entire shampoo bottle in the bathroom, getting caught and then blaming it on your cousin! It was indeed so silly and a lot of fun! But when you look back at it now, you were only making memories for life. A cousin is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.

8. The door of your house is always open for them any time of the day

You both have your stuff at each other’s place and can walk in whenever you want. You don’t think twice to check their fridge for food, in fact, chances are that your favorite food is already waiting for you on the table.

Do the two of you have a secret language with gibberish syntax and funny code names for people in your life? The moment you see your cousin, you both immediately switch to your secret vocabulary and leave everyone around you baffled!

Whether it is your first paycheck or first car or first breakup, they are always there to share a drink.

11. They are one of your doppelgangers

You have spent so much time together that by now you could be twins and have such similar personalities. You are not just partners in crime but you are like a small gang.

12. Cousins are forever

Friends may come and go but cousins are for life. They will love you and cherish you forever even when you don’t have teeth, go senile and start to forget things.

Words fall short to describe the special bond we share with our cousins. They are a big part of so many of our childhood memories, family pictures and life in general. You can afford to be stupid with them, talk nonsense and have that nonsense respected. And if you get lucky enough, they are also your best friend forever.
