When Wendell Overton, a 10-year-old boy from Manteo, North Carolina, was walking through his neighborhood, he saw a scary sight. He witnessed a cat being abused by a group of children ranging from the ages of 5 - 13.
The kids did horrible things to this cat. They threw him in the air and kicked him. They even ran over him with their bicycles. Wendell knew he had to take action or else the cat was going to die. He ran over to the group of kids and told them to stop hurting the cat. They just ignored him.

He told them he wasn’t leaving without the cat. He took the cat from them and took him home. Once he was back home safe, Wendell, with the help of his mom, called and reached out to the Outer Banks SPCA. They took the cat to the SPCA. The cat was rushed in for treatment.
They named the cat Jackson. The SPCA was extremely grateful for the actions Wendell took to save Jackson. They ousted a picture of Wendell and Jackson on their Facebook page. This photo then went viral. Everyone was so impressed at what this young boy did. They put himself in danger to save this cat! People even sent letters to Wendell to thank him for saving Jackson.
For the next two weeks, Jackson began recovering from his injuries. The SPCA started to look for the right home for him. After a while, they found an animal rescue in New York to take him in, the North Shore Animal League. Once he was fully recovered, he was taken to his new home.
Soon after, he was adopted to a young couple, Joe and Jennifer Marinelli. Jackson is now happy living with his parents and his cat sister. They say he is so sweet, so trusting, and one of the happiest cats they know. Wendell is so happy Jackson was adopted by such a nice family.
Jackson has been with the couple for over five years, and he is a very happy cat. Because of Wendell’s brave action, he is living a great life on Long Island. Because Wendell refused to just stand by and let these bullies hurt Jackson, he gave this cat a chance at a new and happy life.
