10 Tasty Recipes For Desserts In A Mug That Take Less Than 5 Minutes To Make

Oct 29, 2018 by apost team

Mug cakes are such an easy and affordable answer to your sweet tooth. For me, they control my portions and keep my diet in check. The best part about mug cakes? No skills required.

All you need is a mug, microwave, 5-10 minutes, and simple ingredients to make your own mug cakes from scratch.

1. Chocolate Cake

Try this hands down winner from Table For Two. Taste and texture marry in the microwave to create a sinful dessert you don’t have to feel guilty about. After about 70 seconds, you can enjoy your homemade moistest cake in a mug.

This recipe might now fully remove the guilt, but the perfect portion size allows me to indulge when the mood strikes. Like many recipes, you can certainly tinker around with it. Sometimes, I like to add in a pinch of red pepper for a bold combination of sweet and spicy.

2. Cookies n’ Cream

Keeping Oreo’s stocked on the pantry shelf is by far the hardest part of this recipe. Other than that, Kirbie Cravings makes it a breeze.

Whether you love Oreo’s or you’re a kid at heart, this comforting cake will bring back memories. Wash down all that sweetness with an icy glass of your favorite ice cream or milk. Trust me. It’s made for the most stubborn sweet tooth.

3. Apple Crisp

Looking for the perfect fall treat you can enjoy any time of the year? Search no further than Ricardo Cuisine’s 5-star Apple Crisp in a mug. No guilt required. In fact, this recipe is healthier than most standard crisp recipes.

A quick tip: pre-dice and freeze apples ahead of time with a squirt of lemon juice (prevents browning). The recipe calls for a specific apple, but I prefer to use granny smith (the bright green ones) because of their bright, crisp flavor. You can also use other fruits or combine fall favorites.

I love mixing multiple fruits like apples, pears, and cranberries on cold mornings.

4. Oatmeal Nutella Cake

This tasty blend of wholesome oats, pecans, and Nutella will start your morning off right. The Kitchn’s light, airy texture really outshines other oat-based recipes. Even if you’re not a fan of oatmeal, you should consider this mug cake because the oats lend a beautiful texture to this mug cake.

The pecans give it the right amount of crunch and a rich buttery flavor.

5. Brownie

Small confession: I’m a chocoholic. A brownie is technically a bar cookie, but I couldn’t resist sharing this indulgent brownie from Gemma’s Bigger Bolder Baking. Six minutes to heaven in a mug? Yes, please. Extra chocolate chips? Pile it on top.

I’m not a huge fan of ice cream, but this is one dish where it’s almost necessary. If I’m not in an ice cream mood, I serve it with a tall glass of cashew milk and savor every bite.

6. Vanilla Cake

Bitz and Giggles delivers a warm vanilla hug kissed with a drizzle of icing and sprinkles to boot. How can you resist sprinkles and icing? This cake can be a lot healthier too. Instead of piling on extra sugar, I like to top it with in season fresh fruit.

The light texture lends itself well to a variety of toppings. Of course, if you want to pretend it’s healthy, you can use canned pie filling too for a makeshift cobbler in a mug.

7. Pumpkin Cake

Fresh and canned pumpkin goes on sale throughout the fall and winter, but you can enjoy this eggless pumpkin dessert from Bigger Bolder Baking any time of year. Plus, the pumpkin makes it healthy, right?

This recipe makes a good base too. You can mess around with the flavors. You could add chopped nuts or dried fruits. Pumpkin is versatile like that. You can almost make it savory, like a bread in a mug, and serve it alongside a rich vegetable stew. Just cut back on the sugar.

8. Chocolate Chip Cookie

Who has time to whip up a couple of dozen cookies when all you need is one? The Comfort of Cooking’s chocolate chip recipe is worth gold.

Most cakes won’t call for eggs, but the yolk in this recipe is necessary to achieve that perfect flavor and texture. It’s like a bar cookie in a mug. If you don’t have chocolate chips on hand, you can omit them. The result will be like a blondie. Also, leftover chopped Halloween candy works well in this recipe too.

9. S’mores

Graham flavored cake meets melted chocolate and toasted marshmallow. Most s’mores cakes forget about graham crackers. It’s more than a delivery device for marshmallow and chocolate. Kirbie Craving’s s'mores mug cake doesn’t disappoint with its doubly delicious addition of the graham crackers.

Easily, the s’mores cake is my all-time favorite. I prefer to burn my marshmallows, but most will enjoy the subtle toasted flavor despite the extra step in the recipe. Hey, it’s still quicker than starting a fire and worth it. Enjoy your s’mores mug cake with or without campfire songs.

The recipe calls for Hershey wafer chocolate, which I believe is a melting chocolate. I use milk chocolate chips whenever I make this because they’re readily available. I don’t alter the measurement.

10. Cinnamon Roll

Most cinnamon roll cakes fail in taste and texture. Kim’s Cravings is the exception, and one recipe you must try if you love cinnamon rolls as much as I do. Quick, easy, and scrumptious all fit the bill. Just be sure to spray the inside of your mug for fast cleanup too.

You can also use Bisquick or pancake mix in place of the flour, but omit the baking powder.

The one pitfall to this cinnamon roll is no icing. You can easily remedy that by mixing up a small batch of icing or keeping a can of premade icing in your fridge.

Now, it’s no secret that I love mug cakes. Do you have a favorite recipe I should try? Have you tried any on the list? What’s your favorite mug cake recipe? Thoughts? I’d love to hear from you.
