A tea-loving woman in the United Kingdom got her wish of being buried in a coffin made to look like a giant teabag box. Tina Watson always had a wicked sense of humor. In a conversation with her daughter, Debs Donovan, Tina said that she would like to be buried in a giant box of teabags. The conversation took place about four years ago following the death of Tina’s husband, Peter, who was Debs’ stepfather.
The death of her husband prompted Tina to talk about her own inevitable funeral. According to the Daily Times, Tina said during the conversation she wanted to be buried in a large box of teabags. While Tina was serious, the two of them laughed at the idea. Debs added that the coffin should be for Typhoo Tea as one could only get “oo” with Typhoo, much to her mother’s amusement.
While it might seem strange that Tina would want to be buried in a coffin made to look like an oversized box of teabags, Tina greatly loved tea. Speaking with reporters, Debs told the Daily Times that on average, her mother drank anywhere between 30 and 40 cups of tea each day every day.

Debs told the Daily Times that despite her great sense of humor, her mother faced a great deal of adversity in her life. 14 years ago, while vacationing in Spain, Tina was bitten by an insect and had to have her leg amputated due to an infection caused by the bite. Tina had to have her other leg amputated later on when the infection spread. In the end, Tina wouldn’t let anything get her down, seeing the joy and good humor in even the direst of situations.
Tina died last week of heart failure at 73 years old. When Debs approached funeral director Paul Pender about making Tina’s coffin into a giant box of Typhoo Tea, he welcomed the challenge. Paul the Daily Times that while it was an unusual request, he was able to accomplish it thanks to a company his funeral home uses that makes custom coffins.
Tina’s funeral was held last Friday at Gilroes Crematorium in Leicester. Looking back at the ceremony honoring her mother, Debs told the Daily Times that Tina would have appreciated all of the effort made to make her wish come true and would have been laughing through the entire thing. After the funeral, Debs told the Daily Times that she was going to go home and raise of a cup of tea to her mother’s spirit.
