Get Ready to Grow!

You don’t need much to grow your own garlic. You don’t even need a backyard. You can grow garlic in a cute little pot or grow lots of garlic bulbs in a big tub. Here are the five steps you need to grow your own garlic:

  1. Buy some organic garlic and separate the cloves.
  2. Plant the cloves in rich soil about an inch from the surface, pointy end up.
  3. When you see green sprouts breaking the surface, give it a little water. Not too much, though. Garlic doesn’t like to be over-watered.
  4. If you see flower buds form, snip them off to preserve the flavor of the garlic.
  5. Your garlic is ready to harvest when the sprouts have about five or six leaves.

Hot tip: Save one clove out of every harvested bulb so you always have a new supply of garlic to replace the garlic you use up!
