Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, celebrated his 40th birthday this year, marking a significant milestone in his life. Once known as the “spare” to his older brother Prince William, his journey over the years has been anything but conventional. Born into British royalty, he captured the world’s attention as a fun-loving, rebellious prince, but his life has since evolved in extraordinary ways.
Over the years, Prince Harry has navigated through public scrutiny, family tensions, and the emotional impact of losing his mother, Princess Diana, at a young age. His decision, alongside his wife Meghan Markle, to step back from royal duties in 2020 was a defining moment in his life as the couple sought greater independence and privacy. Now, as a father of two, Harry is focused on his role as a parent to Archie and Lilibet, and as a passionate advocate for mental health, veterans, and climate change awareness.
At 40, Prince Harry’s public image has shifted significantly, from the wild younger brother of the future king to a man committed to using his platform for positive change. Through his Archewell Foundation, he works on initiatives that reflect his personal experiences and values. While tensions with the royal family remain a point of media fascination, Harry has charted a new path that prioritizes family, wellness, and giving back.
It seems like turning 40 has given Prince Harry a reflective perspective on his life, one that balances his past as a royal with his current focus on his future as a philanthropist, husband, and father. As he enters this new decade, Prince Harry is showing the world that life after royalty can be just as impactful.
Prince Harry celebrated his 40th birthday earlier this year, amid widespread celebrations - the biggest of which was a surprise birthday tribute from the royal family’s social media page. Commemorating the big day, the royal family posted a picture of the Duke of Sussex for the first time since 2020, when he publicly separated himself from the monarchy. They accompanied the photograph with the caption:
“🎂Wishing The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!”
Prince Harry also discussed the big milestone with the press by giving a statement to the BBC. Ahead of his birthday, the Duke of Sussex informed the BBC:
“I was anxious about 30, I’m excited about 40,” he said.
Harry and Meghan have been actively involved in several charity projects, including the one they founded, Archewell. Discussing his birthday intentions, the Duke of Sussex also took the opportunity to promote his charity projects, saying:
“Whatever the age, my mission is to continue showing up and doing good in the world”.
As for the plans for the big birthday celebration, he revealed that he was spending the actual day with his family in California before heading away with some close friends. Prince Harry also opened up about his family and how being a father to Archie, five, and Lilibet, three, has changed his life. In a press statement released by his spokesperson, he said:
“Becoming a father of two incredibly kind and funny kids has given me a fresh perspective on life, as well as sharpening my focus in all my work.”
The last decade has been life-changing for Prince Harry, who turned 30 a year after returning from serving in the army in Afghanistan. Since then, he has found love, gotten married and become a doting father. The last ten years brought incredibly big changes into his life, and it’s hard to say what the next ten years will bring.
