When US Soldier Returns Home, Giant Bullmastiff Showers Him With Kisses
Jan 28, 2020
Jaxson, an 18-month-old bullmastiff, really missed his owner, Jason Floyd. Jason is 19 and had to be away from his adorable 160-pound puppy for basic Army training, which took three months. Jaxson was well-looked-after by Floyd's family, but for dogs, it's all about their special people being present in their lives.
Jason's mother, Lisa Floyd, had to put one of Jason's old T-shirts on a pillow for the lonely pooch to snuggle up against.
When Jason walked in the door, the huge puppy was overwhelmed with joy and launched himself on top of Jason, giving him enthusiastic kisses while wiggling around happily. The pair rolled around on the floor together, cuddling happily.

As a huge bullmastiff, Jaxson can look intimidating, but it's just superficial. In actuality, he's just a big lovebug.
Bullmastiffs were developed in the 19th century by gamekeepers to guard estates. The first members of the breed were created by crossing Mastiffs with a now-extinct very aggressive strain of Bulldog, followed by selection for true-breeding desirable traits. Their primary job was to tackle poachers and pin them to the ground. They have been referred to as the Gamekeeper's Dog and worked hard patrolling the estates at night.
At 160 pounds, Jaxson is an oversized representative of the breed; male Bullmastiffs are supposed to weigh 110 to 130 pounds and breeders try to stay within this range, believing that oversized dogs wouldn't be fast enough to run down poachers.
