When Simon Challenged This Handsome Contestant To Do The Impossible, His Comeback Shocked Everyone
Jun 25, 2018
Daniel Emmet spent much time preparing for his America's Got Talent audition. He painstakingly chose a song and spent hours upon hours practicing his execution of it. Being bilingual, he selected an Italian ballad sure to knock the judges off their feet. However, something unexpected and unsettling happened in the middle of this audition...
During his performance of an original Italian song, Simon looked unimpressed and raised his hand to signal producers to stop the performance. Daniel was forced to stop mid-song. After hours preparing for this moment, Simon didn't even let him finish!

After some discussion, Simon came to the conclusion that he wanted Daniel to perform a second song, but Daniel had not come prepared with a second song. That's when Simon had a brilliant idea.
Pulling his producer over, Simon asked if Daniel could be given an hour to memorize and perform a song chosen by Simon. His producer agreed, and Daniel had exactly one hour backstage to not only learn a new song but to learn a new song in a non-native language.
Could Daniel rise to Simon's very unconventional and surprising challenge?
When the judges told Daniel that he would certainly impress everyone if he pulled off Simon's challenge, Daniel did not respond with absolute confidence. Instead, he said he would "try not to mess it up". Then, with a slight smile, Daniel began to focus his energy on his performance. He took a deep breath and reigned in his nerves. With the audience's support, he flawlessly started a spellbinding performance.
Upon his first utterances, the judges and the audience both gasped in shock. How did Daniel just learn this new song that quickly? He did not appear to have just been introduced to this song an hour before. He appeared to have sung this song all his life.
Daniel somehow, in that short time, mastered each note, each pronunciation, and each pause. He never once appeared unsure or nervous; instead, he moved around the song as one does an old friend, gracefully and securely.
Of course, all four judges were full of admiration for Daniel, but the one who showed his admiration most was Simon. Simon knew he had given Daniel an incredibly difficult task and acknowledged just how well Daniel took it upon himself to achieve, saying:
"This shows your ambition. You had a difficult song to learn and sing, and you did incredibly well. I really, really like you."
Daniel, to everyone's expectation, was passed to the next round. He also now has one of the most unique auditions to date, and will, undoubtedly, go on to achieve much and meet many more challenging tasks.
