Video Captures Dog Kissing Firefighter Who Saved Him After He Got Stuck On A Roof
Jul 17, 2023
Alaskan huskies are very distinct-looking canines. They are impossible not to notice due to their heavy fur coats. And who wouldn't see one stuck on top of a roof? One poor dog by the name of Jasper made the ill-advised decision to climb out of an upstairs window and check out the roof.
Dogs are known for being man’s best friend, but they can also be a hassle at times. Of course, every pet owner hopes to keep their furry friend safe and sound, but sometimes the unfortunate happens. This was the case for Jasper in May 2018.
The Maine winds kicked up, and poor Jasper found himself unable to get down. Human hands and feet would have a tough time going backward from the roof to the window. For a dog's paws, the task proved impossible. Thankfully, someone noticed Jasper's plight and called 911.
Jeff Nawfel, the captain of the local fire department, sprung into action. He reached Jasper on top of the roof and helped the four-legged explorer out of his predicament.
The husky was quick to show his appreciation, too. Officer Steve McDonald managed to capture a video of the rescue and caught the dog's sweet reaction the moment he was saved.
The dog started to show a lot of affection toward the firefighter. While the captain worked at opening the window, Jasper paced back and forth and wagged his tail. The dog went up to the captain and gave him a kiss as a thank you for all the work he did. The image of the dog while he licked the firefighter's face made the video both humorous and poignant.

According to Inside Edition, local authorities in Maine received several calls about a dog that was stuck on the roof of someone’s home. Without hesitation, the first responders jumped into action and made their way to the home to save the stuck pup. It appeared that Jasper, the Alaskan husky, had managed to climb out of a window on the upstairs floor and scamper out onto the roof.
Firefighter Nawfel said that this type of rescue was a first for him, and he eventually helped coax the dog back inside the home, where he was safe and sound.
But before that, Jasper showed his appreciation for the firefighter captain and gave him a sweet kiss on his face!
A video of the rescue was posted by the Wells Police Facebook page in May 2018 and received plenty of love from people online. Several people praised the firefighter for his heroic actions, while others commented on how precious the husky was.
One person named Erin Fenderson commented: “This is my friend's dog, his name is Jasper and this is not the first time he has done this...he just loves to be outside, they must have forgot to close the window....thanks for rescuing him!”
It was a good thing that the fire department was able to dispatch a truck to the scene right away. While the video of the occurrence had its funny side, the situation wasn't a safe one for Jasper. The narrow ledge of the roof didn't give him too much room to maneuver. Fortunately, Jasper and the firefighter were safe and sound!
