In 2017, Miley the Dalmatian broke an Australian record when she gave birth to a litter of 18 puppies.
Parenthood is an extremely important part of our lives, but in today's society, families typically consist of two or three children. Now, imagine raising eight or nine children. This is what animals deal with throughout their lifetime, and it is safe to say that most animals are amazing parents.

Motherhood is extremely difficult — from childbirth to raising the child until he or she is capable of living independently. New mothers do not even get a chance to recover after giving birth because as soon as a child is born, the responsibilities are dealt out.
In a human family, the mother and father may equally split tasks, such as feeding, diaper changing, caregiving, and teaching. Even the thought of having triplets is enough to give most families massive headaches. So, how do animals do it?
This story is of one Dalmatian who gave birth to a whopping litter of 18 puppies, as Daily Mail reports. This mother was calm and collected throughout the birthing process; however, she did take a much-needed nap during a part of her labor. The mother and puppies have been doing extremely well, and now the responsibility of sustaining and caring for the litter lies on the mother, as it does in most animal families.

When Miley, the then 3-year-old dalmatian became pregnant, the vets claimed that she would only have three puppies, 9News Melbourne reported. This was quickly proven false as Miley gave birth to 18, rather than three pups. Miley was in labor for 13 hours, according to the Herald Sun, and just when her vet expected that she was done, more pups were born.
Her litter includes 12 females and six males, and she seems to have great pride in her children. Of course, animals have no way of telling us how the process works, and we are forced to use our observation and deductive skills when dealing with them. Regardless if Miley was expecting so many children or not, she seemed very happy once her litter was born.
Cecilia Langton-Bunker, the breeder, has been breeding dalmatians for nearly 30 years; however, she has never seen anything like this in the entirety of her experience. She claims that she suspected that Miley would complete her labor after the 16th pup because she had laid down to take a nap.
Langton-Bunker was very surprised when Miley woke up later and gave birth to three more pups. Of course, with this many pups, Langton-Bunker felt that she was unprepared to deal with such a large number of puppies. Fortunately, her home is very equipped for handling a massive number of animals.
With this many of the same puppies, it can be difficult to tell them apart, and Langton-Bunker has placed temporary dye on each pup. The dye is animal-friendly and comes in different colors, making it easier for Langton-Bunker to identify each pup. When they are older they will each have a collar and head to their new homes.
