The family decided to take an expedition to the ocean at the Ojo de Liebre Lagoon. While they were out on the boat, a group of whales swam ventured towards them and began frolicking in the waters nearby. Instead of being aggressive, these whales seemed friendly and perhaps, curious about the boat. Their curiosity led to a once in a lifetime experience.

The whales were friendly enough to let the humans touch them. In fact, they seemed to enjoy it after they realized that the tourists were not hostile. Wild animals are typically fearful of humans, however, large creatures such as lions, tigers, sharks, and even whales tend to be less afraid due to their large size. Even if humans were hostile towards them, they could easily defend themselves.

The understanding of peace between the whales and the tourists led to an experience that the family would never forget. A video of the encounter had gone viral in 2019 a few days after it had been taken. In the video, we see a 40-foot whale and her calf pushing the boat around and diving underneath the boat.

The gray whale population is one of the few stable populations of whales that are not hunted. They typically reside near coastlines in the Pacific Ocean and can also be seen near the Atlantic. The gray whale does not have many enemies but may be hunted by the killer whale. They often reside very close to the shore because their main food source is found in mass amounts there.

The population is split into the western and eastern subdivisions. The western population has become critically endangered over the years due to illegal hunting and habitat destruction. Thankfully, their eastern population remains stable and continues to grow in size with every passing day.
