Jul 02, 2018

Our parents must've spent hours lecturing us about never talking to strangers when we were kids, and for good reason, too! It's a parent's job to keep their child safe ever when they're not around to keep an eye on us. But what happens when you are there to almost witness your own daughter's abduction? Read on to learn about this mother's nightmare stop at a rest area.

Abby Sue and her daughter were going on a fun road trip when they needed to stop to use the bathroom. It's something we all want to avoid, but sometimes you just can't hold it any longer. While most of us are only traumatized by how dirty or smelly the bathrooms are, Abby was in for a much scarier experience.

During their drive on I-74 near Batesville, Indiana, Abby had no way of knowing that the rest stop they were about to use would also have criminals waiting with malicious intent. Abby was able to share her story with the rest of the internet as a warning to everyone to always be aware of your surroundings.

While walking into the bathroom, Abby immediately noticed a sketchy woman extinguishing a cigarette immediately after the two entered. Holding hands, Abby pulled her daughter into the handicapped stall furthest away from the woman. While they were in there, she heard something that made her blood run cold.

"She was talking to another lady about us - I heard her say 'the little girl.' I told my daughter we weren't washing hands and I was going to carry her out. As we leave, I passed both women," she recalled. She noticed that the woman who had been smoking was now wearing different clothes and that she was leaving her bag behind in the bathroom to follow them out the door.

Luckily, Abby's terrifying experience has a happy ending, and she is sure to end her tale with a warning to the public. "I then made a dead sprint to the car, threw my daughter in and locked doors. Once we were safely in the car, I noticed three men standing in front of a gold minivan with all the doors open... We called 9-1-1 and reported. I have this terrible feeling that, had I not been aware of my surroundings, my daughter may have been taken from me. It is a terrifying world we are living in. I wanted to share to try to remind everyone to be aware of your surroundings, hold on to your children and stay off your phones so you are not distracted!"

Being aware of your surroundings is no joke. Thankfully, Abby and her daughter are safe because of Abby's sharp eyes and quick thinking. Be sure to pass this message along to everyone you know to possibly save a life!
