This Soaking Wet Kitten Clings To Her Rescuer's Shoulder After Surviving Hurricane

Sep 18, 2018

As Hurricane Florence, which as of now been downgraded to a tropical storm, has relentlessly battered North Carolina, many lives have been affected. A recent report from CBS News stated that at least fourteen lives have been lost in the storm.

Even though Florence has been downgraded from its hurricane status, the storm is still causing immense flooding. While the storm isn’t as bad as meteorologists thought it would be, there is still way too much water being dumped onto already flooded areas in the Carolinas. “I cannot overstate it: Floodwaters are rising,” said Roy Cooper, the governor of North Carolina. He further stated, “and if you aren’t watching for them, you are risking your life.”

Many good spirited citizens have come to help, and small crews with boats have been patrolling the area looking for anyone who might be caught by the flood waters. One of these crews was made up of three young men, who wish to remain anonymous.
One of their passengers didn’t mind sharing their story, though. Robert Simmons Jr. lived in the flooded area for almost 40 years and he stated that he had never experienced anything quite this bad.

Thankfully, Simmons’ house was still standing and was not affected too much from the flooding. Simmons told the News Observer that the flood water stopped right at his front door.
Even though he had decided to evacuate the area, his father who was living in the same house, decided that he would stay. While Simmons was concerned to leave his father behind, he stated that he had to get himself out anyway, even if his father refused.

But Simmons was happy that he was able to convince at least one other survivor to evacuate with him. A little, soaked kitten was curled up and stowing away in the hood of his coat.

Eventually, the kitten built up enough confidence to crawl out of Simmons’ hood and sit on his shoulder. The kitten, holding on for dear life, mowed as the boat moved along.
“I feed him. I’m an animal lover. His momma was in there, but shes a wild cat, so...” Simmons said.

In the midst of all the commotion caused by Florence, he decided to give the kitten a perfect name: Survivor. Check out the video to see the kitty for yourself:
