This Marine And His Puppy Were Finally Reunited After Being Separated In Afghanistan
Jul 02, 2018
Man’s best friend lives up to his name. This puppy kept Marines smiling through darkest days. Now he’s getting the retirement he deserves.
Marine Sergeant Jacob Fisher didn’t deploy to Afghanistan with fuzzy animals on his mind. He wanted to protect America’s freedoms and honor his country. When he discovered a tiny puppy in an animal cage, his heart melted a tiny bit. He and his new friend were completely inseparable, but Jax needed some help. The puppy was shaking and very, very cold. Sgt. Fisher knew the little guy needed some help.

He named the puppy Jax and immediately realized he’d found a special new friend. Living on the base is hard work. It’s hot, dusty and far from home. Jax kept the entire unit’s morale high. Sgt. Fisher called him “amazing” and said he could cheer up anyone, no matter how bad their day was.
Bringing a dog home from overseas isn’t easy. Someone has to take care of medical paperwork and transportation. That’s where the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) comes in. Their Operation Baghdad Pups program helps military members bring furry friends back home.
With the help of the SPCA, Jax made it home America. Now he’s reunited with Sgt. Fisher and ready for life as a family pup. He’s ready for bellyrubs and treats — and prepared to brighten his new family’s day. With his long legs and short coat, he looks like a completely different dog. On the inside, though, he's the same little bundle of love that Sgt. Fisher rescued seven months ago. Just look at the two of them snuggle!
