There is a good chance that you have a dirty ring in your toilet right now. Don’t worry, it happens! If you do have a ring, you more than likely have something in your house already that will get rid of it quickly and easily. Don’t worry about buying expensive and chemically-laden toilet cleaners. All you really need is plain white vinegar to clean your toilet. Best of all, it is cheap, natural, and non-toxic.

What exactly happens when you use vinegar in your toilet? Vinegar helps clean out your toilet no matter when you use it. It works if you use it daily or if you use it on months’ worth of dirt and grime. White distilled vinegar is the best to use on your toilet. You could use apple cider vinegar, but since it is brown it may actually stain.

• Fill up a clean spray bottle with the vinegar. Yes, you could just dump vinegar straight into the bowl, but it will save you money if you use the bottle. This also allows you to spray vinegar on certain areas easier. Spray the whole inside of the toilet with the vinegar and allow it to sit. Depending on how bad the toilet is, you may wish to let it soak for a longer time.

• For a relatively clean toilet, allow the vinegar to sit for about 10 minutes. For a really bad ring, let it sit and soak overnight. When you are ready, use a toilet scrub brush to scrub out the vinegar. You’ll be amazed at just how clean your toilet becomes! This is a good idea for when you go on vacation, as well. Come home to a sparkling clean toilet bowl!

• For those who are worried about germs, white vinegar can kill mold, bacteria, and other microorganisms that gather in the toilet. Many people believe they have to kill germs with bleach, but vinegar can do the trick just as well. You can also use white vinegar to clean up other items in your home, such as sink drains, shower heads, dishwashers, and more. Vinegar in the back of the toilet tank will also help continuously clean your toilet every time that you flush.
