Kevin Bacon melted hearts everywhere in 2020 with his emotional tribute to his wife, Kyra Sedgwick. Kevin and Sedgwick first met in 1978 after he was cast in a local play that Sedgwick had watched with her brother. Bacon was 19 at the time, while she was only 12.
“A little girl was in there who had just seen the matinee, and her brother said, ‘You liked that actor, go tell him you liked him,’ and it was Kyra,” Kevin said in 2014 when appearing on “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” as reported by Us Magazine. “She was a little girl, yeah, she was 12 years old.”
When the pair met again later in life, Sedgwick decided to give Kevin a chance. They married in 1988 when Sedgwick was 23.
They have now been married for 36 years. Kevin posted a throwback photo from their wedding in September 2020 on his social media as they celebrated their 32nd anniversary. He took to his Instagram page to show gratitude to his special lady, Sedgwick. The actor wrote a simple, loving message for his wife and gushed over their many years together.
“11,680 days with you,” Kevin captioned his post. “Thanks for making them all count.”
Fans of the couple quickly commented on the post with admiration for their successful, loving marriage and sent the pair good wishes. Some took the humorous route by calculating the exact minutes and seconds Bacon and Sedgwick had been together. In contrast, others expressed their admiration for the two lovebirds and their strong relationship.
In September 2021, Kevin posted another tribute for their 33rd anniversary. Alongside a romantic black-and-white photo of the couple dancing was the caption:
“Here’s to dancing through life with you @kyrasedgwickofficial. Happy anniversary. You are the reason.”

The couple has one son named Travis and a daughter Sosie. Both are in their 30s and have followed their parents into the entertainment industry. Travis joined a band, while Sosie followed in her parents’ footsteps and became an actress. Kevin shared his thoughts on Sosie getting into acting and said:
“Kyra and I had always, inadvertently, given her the message that this was not a life we wanted her to have. It’s uncertain, you’re judged, it’s a lifetime of rejection, and add to that being a woman, and there are even more challenges. If you’re an actor, you have to be able to say, ‘I’m going to do this, whatever you say.’ So two very successful actors, her parents, were saying no, and she said, ‘I’m doing it anyway’, and that’s what you need to make it.”
He added there had never been any competition between him and Sedgwick.
“Kyra and I believe in each other as actors, as directors and as talent. She’s never been anything other than supportive of me,” Kevin told People.
“She doesn’t have a competitive bone in her body when it comes to me. She takes my successes as hers. I’m the same way.”
With the kids out of the house, the parents said they could enjoy their time together.
“We cook, we clean, we decide what we’re having for the next meal, and then we cook it, clean it ... Her partnership is invaluable,” Kevin said. “I found someone I was meant to be with.”
The actor also explained he has no interest in retiring anytime soon. Kevin shared: “A lot of people who are my age are thinking about pumping the brakes a little. I’m really looking down the road. I don’t have much of a rearview mirror.”
Unbeknownst to many, before Kevin had achieved all of the successes in life he has right now, he was then a struggling artist. In a guest appearance at “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Kevin fondly recalled the time when he moved from Philadelphia to New York City way back in 1976.
During his first few months in The Big Apple, Kevin slept on her sister’s couch until he finally got his bearings. Clarkson, who has since moved to New York City from Los Angeles, attested that New York City is not a “cheap city,” to which Kevin vocally agreed.
“Although I can tell you that in 1976, my budget for my apartment was $150 a month,” Kevin told the shocked crowd. Clarkson jokingly asked if Kevin had lived in a “closet,” given how small that rent is: “Right, of someone else’s closet!”
Back then, when Kevin was looking for a place to live, he chanced upon a good one, but it was way out of his budget. The landlord then suggested splitting it with a stranger who was also looking for a place.
“He said, ‘What about this guy?’ I’m sitting on the couch and I said, ‘I don’t know this guy,’ and he goes, and he goes, ‘You wanna live together?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, okay.’ ‘Yeah okay, we’ll live together.’ And we lived together for four years,” Kevin added.
Decades later, Kevin is living life with his wife in Sharon, Connecticut, on their 40-acre farm. There, they are surrounded by a bounty of animals, including pigs, alpacas, goats, and horses.
“I love animals, they are a joy to be around, and they’re very, very calming for me,” Bacon told Fox News Digital.” But we also really love to go into the garden and get fresh herbs or tomatoes or basil or peppers or zucchini.”
