Garlic contains compounds that help activate the immune system and fight off viruses, bacteria, and other potential pathogens as the University of Rochester Medical Center states. Garlic also helps to promote circulation, decrease blood pressure, and support the digestive system. Garlic, which contains allicin, has been shown to reduce the symptoms of colds and provide people who consume it with vitamins and nutrients.

Ginger also helps the immune system with the chemicals it contains. You will also find that ginger can be used to treat people who are nauseated and vomiting. According to the University of Rochester Medical Center, ginger contains potent anti-inflammatory agents that can reduce pain and symptoms of arthritis. Beyond this, ginger contains antimicrobial and antifungal agents that can prevent an infection from becoming more complicated.
