In August, Australian couple Montana Lower and Tom Lindwood of YouTube channel On the Way shared a video discussing their success using "elimination communication," which has meant that their daughter hasn't needed diapers since she was two weeks old.

Montana Lower and Tom Lindwood are a couple from Byron Bay, Australia. They have an infant daughter named Blue, who, according to them, hasn't needed or used a diaper since she was 2-weeks old.
In a video released on their YouTube channel On the Way, the parents explain why they use baby elimination communication (EC), a process that involves looking out for signs that your baby needs the toilet and taking them, and share their experience and tips on how to go about doing it. According to Lower and Linwood, EC bypasses the need for a diaper and enforcing a learned behavior.

Lower said she thought the idea was "crazy" at first but shared that it took only one day of Lindwood "really committing" to taking their daughter to the potty every time she looked like she might need to go for her to become toilet trained. From that day on, Lower says Blue will look to them when she needs to go to the toilet and they take her to the potty.
"Babies are born with absolutely no preconceived knowledge of how to go to the bathroom and so if we don't teach them to go in their nappy, then we don't have to unteach them," she said.
Lindwood says that parents are able to recognize cues for when their child is hungry, and the same technique can also be used to know when they need to go to the toilet.
According to them, EC is the process of using a toilet for your baby instead of relying on a diaper. They wrote in their video description, "The biggest reason why we started taking Blue to the toilet at 2 weeks old is learning that being left to sit in a soiled diaper can add to shame and disassociation with our intimate areas — especially for girls. And it makes sense!"
According to Mama Natural, the benefits of baby EC include:
1. It encourages a deep connection between you and your baby.
2. It’s cleaner.
3. It’s more comfortable.
4. You can use fewer diapers.
5. The baby gains self-esteem.
6. Explains unexplainable behavior.
Mama Natural adds that the initial disadvantages of EC are that it would take more time and dedication, it is messier than using diapers, and it can be isolating if the parent(s) don't know anyone in real life that is using or has used the method.
What do you think of the EC method? Would you try it out with your babies? Tell us your thoughts in the comments and be sure to pass this along to other parents to get their opinions.
