‘The Voice’ Fans Slam Judge’s 'Despicable' Pick For Playoff Advisor & Threaten To Boycott Show

“The Voice” on NBC is one of the most watched singing contests, with season 24 averaging an audience of over 5.9 million viewers per episode. The current 26th season has brought its fair share of incredible talent, with contestants impressing both judges and the audience with each episode and every performance. From the blind auditions to the battles, this season of “The Voice” is not one to miss.

Or it could be, according to some fans who threatened to skip a recent episode over their disapproval of a certain judge’s pick for playoff advisor. 

It was announced on the show’s Instagram page that veteran singer and judge Gwen Stefani had selected controversial rapper, songwriter and actor Machine Gun Kelly as her playoff advisor. The show made the announcement on their page, along with a picture of the rapper and a caption which read:

"make some noise for Team Gwen’s Playoff Advisor… mgk! 👏🔥 don’t miss the Playoffs TOMORROW 9/8c on @nbc and streaming on @peacock! #TheVoice#"

This caused a stir on social media, with fans displaying mixed reactions to the selection. Although some expressed excitement for what’s to come from the collaboration, others felt affronted by the choice and voiced their disapproval of the Cleveland rapper. 

While he is a talented and versatile artist, a lot of negative headlines and social media reactions seem to follow him everywhere he goes. He is also known for his very unconventional relationship with partner and actress Megan Fox, which caused the internet bewilderment when they opened up about drinking each other’s blood to celebrate their engagement.  

Given everything that netizens know about Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), it was no surprise that fans of “The Voice” voiced their concerns when his temporary role on the show was announced. Some felt that he would not be able to contribute meaningfully to the episode, including one Instagrammer who commented:

“My noise is Boo! Why didn’t you pick a real musician??”

A video that announced the rapper's selection on the show was posted on "The Voice"'s Facebook page, in which MGK introduced himself and shared his excitement about being a playoff advisor while sitting beside Stefani. A fan of the show’s other seasons and who is clearly not a fan of the rapper voiced their annoyance in the comments.

"So glad I am not watching this season," they asserted.

Others were more vehement in their frustrations, going as far as declaring that they would not watch the episode featuring MGK. One viewer criticized the selection, writing:

"Wth?????? Why???? He's not worthy of being in the show let alone being am advisor. I just can't. I will skip these episodes with him. Ugh. Despicable choice. 'Voice' do better." 

However, the “Bloody Valentine” rapper still had some fans standing firmly behind him. One fan felt that Stefani’s choice for playoff advisor could not be better, gushing:

“Best decision 👏🏻👏🏻”

Another Instagrammer showed some love for him, declaring:

“The only reason I’m watching the voice is because mgk is on it.”

The sentiment was echoed by one user who wrote:

“i haven’t been watching the voice but i will be watching tomorrow for mgk”

Machine Gun Kelly is no stranger to controversy, having recently been slammed by country music fans after he won the award for Best Crossover Song at the People's Choice Country Awards.
