The Real-Life Tom And Jerry — Mouse Runs Up To A Cat To Nuzzle After Being Chased Around
Oct 30, 2020
A video was recently posted in China of a cat and mouse pair that appear to have overcome their differences. After a playful moment of chasing each other around, this brave little rodent did not take the usual tactic of scurrying away.
The relationship struggles between cats and mice are so well-known that their opposition is proverbial. However, some of these waring animals appear to have not gotten the memo that they are meant to hate each other.
Rather, the mouse ran back to the cat for some post-play cuddles. The little mouse ran directly under the cat's stomach, batting at it affectionately. It didn't want to fight. It just wanted a friend!

After this unlikely video was posted, commenters from around the world were immediately captivating and amused. The comparison between a famous cartoon pairing, Tom and Jerry, was quickly made.
Tom and Jerry is a classic cartoon that reached its peak level of fame in the mid-1970s. The cat and mouse pair constantly bicker, fight, and plot against each other. However, at the end of every episode, their friendship is revealed. Regardless of their antics, they are always inseparable friends.
This real-life version of the famous cartoon was filmed on October 25th, 2020 in Xiangyang, a central city in China. The video was posted to the popular Chinese website Xuanwo Video, which is a similar site to YouTube.

At the beginning of the film, this feisty black cat is seen chasing the mouse as the mouse quickly scurries to get away from the feline. However, when the cat reaches the mouse, it is clear that the cat has no intention of harming his little friend. Once they are reunited, the cat simply flops onto her sides to continue playing.
At this point, the mouse would normally run as far as it could to escape the impending claws. But that isn't what happens. Instead, the mouse goes for a much more unusual and daring tactic. It runs up to the cat and hides underneath it.
The mouse simply wants to be warmed and cuddled by his much larger friend. The cat is in on the game too. Rather than hurting the easily-trapped mouse, the cat happily accepts the request for snuggles. The cat curls its body around the mouse lovingly and yawns a contented sigh, presumably tired from the busy morning of playing.
This unique interaction has been viewed millions of times by amazed viewers of the site. One commenter quipped, "Wow, they're like Tom and Jerry, but maybe even friendlier!" Another one joked, saying, "Look at that, would you? True love. It doesn't matter what the color is of the skin, the race, gender... heck, even species. That's love right there."
According to Daily Mail, Caroline Clark, a registered expert in animal behavior, also weighed in. She told the outlet that,
"The mouse is holding still at the beginning, which is normally a sign of fear. However, this is often a strategy used when an animal is trying to trick its follower into giving up the chase.
I'm not sure if what we're seeing is love, as the mouse's reaction makes no sense. It's putting itself in danger. I'm wondering if the mouse is actually just in shock and disoriented.
Whether or not Clark's take on the situation is true, we prefer to believe that this is just a good-natured friendship between an unlikely pair. This video of a cat and mouse becoming a real-life Tom and Jerry is a wonderful reminder that friendship can overcome long-lasting animosity.
