The Person Looking After Prince William And Kate's Children While The Royal Couple Is Traveling
May 25, 2021
Prince William and Kate Middleton are currently in Scotland for a royal tour. PEOPLE reported that William stepped out as Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in May 2021. This is the first time he has carried out the role, which was appointed to him by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Following William's address to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland on May 22, 2021, William and Kate have since set off on a series of visits over several days. Their trips include a visit to St. Andrews University, where the couple's story began, as well as a visit to Orkney, which will mark the first time they will be there on official royal duties.
In this case, people may be wondering who takes care of the royal kids since they do not join their parents on tours. Meet Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo — the powerhouse of a nanny who helps William and Kate out with their three little cherubs: Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3.
Borrallo is from Palencia, Spain. She was hired by the family when George was a few months old. According to The Sun, she was trained at the prestigious nanny school, Norland College. The school was launched in 1892 and has trained over 10,000 nannies who have gone on to work for high-profile families from members of the royal family to Hollywood celebrities.
Author of "Nanny in a Book" and Norland expert, Louise Heren, told the news outlet that with Borrallo, the Cambridge children are in good hands.
The Sun reported that becoming a Norland nanny takes up to three years at the school, and it can cost about $35,000 to hire one. But you'll most certainly get what you pay for.
The Norland expert shared that George, Charlotte and Louis will not be picky when it comes to food because “you don’t have a fussy eater if you have a Norland Nanny” from birth. Norland also practices introducing new food and flavors to their employers’ children regularly.
Borrallo is sometimes seen in photos with the kids, and perhaps one thing that makes her stand out from regular nannies is her attire. The Sun reported that the Norland uniform, which costs about $1,300, consists of white gloves (brown in the winter), brown brogues and a little brown bowler hat. They have to keep their fingernails short and their hair has to be tied in a bun and kept neatly away from the face.
As per their education at Norland, Borrallo also knows self-defense and skid pan training. “It’s about enhancing driving confidence when you have someone else’s precious children in the car, it’s not about evading terrorists,” Heren explained.
Overall, Heren says having a Norland nanny will enhance a family’s life. The expert shared that Borrallo keeps the children's days filled with fun activities that they will run to William and Kate when they come home and say “guess what I’ve done today, I don’t care if you've met some world dignitary, listen to what I’ve done.”
“The paparazzi won’t catch Catherine looking distracted because she doesn’t need to be,” the expert added. “She doesn’t need to be thinking about the welfare of their children because they are perfectly safe and looked after."

Heren also describes Borrallo’s relationship with the family to be more of a “partnership" rather than as a member of staff. It is also assumed that she gets along well with Kate.
When it comes to royal engagements, Borrallo preps the kids beforehand so they are aware of the situation and what is expected of them. Heren said that Borrallo will ensure that the children are “fully alert and ready to go with smiles.”
"She’ll say: ‘This is your opportunity to show Mummy and Daddy just how wonderful you are, and you are to smile and be really good for them and then we can go inside and play.’” Heren writes.
According to Heren, bedtime for the young princes and princess will be at 7 p.m. Throughout the day, they would have various activities lined up for them and most of it has to do with playing outdoors. Heren explains that “getting mucky outside with the kids is a key part of the Norland ethos,” and the Cambridge children go on bike rides, play with the dogs and even do some gardening.
When they are not playing outside, the children will play with puzzles and other educational games. Screen time is limited but it is ultimately up to William and Kate as to how long they get to play on devices.
Besides regular nanny skills, Borrallo speaks six languages, including her native of Spanish, which Town & Country reported she has been teaching to George, who already knows the basics. It looks like the royal kids are always in good hands even when the duke and duchess are away on royal tours.
