The Oscars Have Been Absolutely Scooped By Bohemian Rhapsody
Feb 25, 2019
The biopic Bohemian Rhapsody tells the story of the band Queen. At tonight's Oscar ceremony the movie was nominated for multiple awards but it was up against some strong competition.
It was a contender for five Oscars:
- Best Picture
- Best Actor for Rami Malek
- Best Sound Mixing
- Best Sound Editing
- Best Film Editing.
It's unbelievable, but the film actually ended up winning four out of five awards!

The moment Rami Malek was announced as the winner of Best Actor, the crowd went wild. Everyone could tell that he was absolutely overwhelmed with joy when he accepted his award. In his speech, he let the audience know how grateful he felt to every single one who believed in him and exclaimed that he will treasure this moment forever!
Malek thanked Queen for giving him the chance to be 'the tiniest part of your phenomenal legacy, I am forever in your debt' and emphasized how honored he felt to have the chance to play Freddie Mercury: 'We made a film about a gay man, an immigrant, who lived his life just unapologetically himself'- The fact that I'm celebrating him and this story with you tonight is proof that we're longing for stories like this. The only Oscar Bohemian Rhapsody didn't win was Best Picture, which was awarded to the phenomenal movie Green Book. But there's no need for sadness. Winning four out of five Oscars you're nominated for is quite a miracle!
Other notable winners of the night included:
- Best Directing: Alfonso Cuarón, Roma
- Best Actress: Olivia Colman, The Favourite
- Best Costume Design: Black Panther
The Oscar for Best Original Song went to Lady Gaga for her song 'Shallow' in A Star Is Born. Just like Rami Malek, she was more than thrilled to receive the award and wanted to let all her fans know that it's important to fight for their dreams:
"If there's a discipline or a passion, it's not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or get beaten up, it's about how many times you stand up and are brave and keep on going. Thank you."
