Terrified Siblings Cling Together On Sinking Car Before Five Strangers Step In To Rescue Their Family
Aug 17, 2020
We often hear about great rescue stories during natural disasters. Being trapped during a natural disaster can be one of the most terrifying moments of your life. You may never know what could happen.
One family was left stranded in their car after Tropical Storm Isaias caused a large flood in Chester County, Pennsylvania early this August. A few strangers who were passing by decided to help by forming a human chain and using a backhoe. They were able to get the family to safety with the cooperation of every person.
When the storm hit Chester County, Pennsylvania, things quickly went south. A nearby stream began to flood and the water level began rising rapidly. The water was so high that it nearly moved a few cars in the area.
A father with four children was trapped in one of those cars and began panicking as they viewed the water outside their windows. With the storm in the area, cell phone service was very poor and without a strong connection, the family was unable to call for assistance. They would be stranded in the car until someone noticed them.

Thankfully, a few strangers noticed that they were stuck and quickly devised a rescue plan to help. Five strangers made use of a farmer's backhoe and formed a human chain in order to pull off a successful rescue.
Upon arriving at the scene, they saw the family huddled together on the roof of their car because the water level was already high. The father was holding a baby while the other siblings were standing together with him. Below them, the water raged violently.
The oldest child nearly fell victim to the wrath of Mother Nature as he was almost swept away by the river's strong current. One of the rescuers grabbed him just in time and saved his life. The rescuer, Dan DiGregorio commented on his rescue in an interview with Fox 29, saying:
"Last night I couldn't sleep. I could still see the fear of that one kid in his eyes."
The five heroes who rescued this family were total strangers. Four of them had come up with the plan to use a human chain while holding onto each other's belts, however, without anything sturdy to hold onto, the plan would not work. Luckily, someone who worked for the West Malborough Township quickly arrived with a backhoe.
Dan's first priority was getting the baby to safety, however, he soon realized that there were other children stranded inside the car. The team quickly worked to get two of the children to the rooftop, but one child, the oldest struggled to get to the roof of the car.
Dan recalls the experience as being something you would experience once in your lifetime. He was pleasantly surprised at the way that five total strangers were able to work together efficiently to save this family from the angry waters.
He hopes that the story and video would reach the family so that he can find out how they are doing. After the fire department arrived at the scene, the family was quickly taken to the nearby shelter to check for any injuries.
This video also serves as a gentle reminder to not be out on the roads during any major storm. Floods are extremely dangerous to drive in and sometimes, there might not be anyone around to help if things go wrong.
