Robert Mendez, Jr serves as an incredible inspiration for many young men. Mendez was born with a condition called tetra-amelia, a rare syndrome in which babies are born without legs or arms. At the time of his birth, his parents were worried that he would not even survive. Mendez did more than just survive. He thrived!

Mendez is currently serving as the coach of the Prospect High School football team. Although he may seem like an unlikely candidate to be a football coach, Mendez excels in this position.

As a boy, Mendez always loved sports. Even though his physical limitations prohibited him from playing, he especially loved the game of football. Mendez even managed to be a part of his own high school's football team, serving as team manager.

His coach, Skip Bloom, said that it was clear that Mendez had great knowledge and understanding of the intricacies of the game.

Although Mendez dedicated his life to coaching youth football, he continued to get passed up for job after job because of his physical disability. Finally, Prospect High School in California took a chance on Mendez.

Taking this chance has certainly paid off for the school. The students and players at Prospect admitted that they were skeptical of the abilities of Mendez to coach.

However, it soon became obvious that Mendez was the right choice for the job. During Mendez' first season, the team won seven straight games before losing in the division championship round.

Teachers and administrators at Prospect High School say that Mendez is positively influencing the students both on and off of the field. To learn more about this inspirational story, be sure to check out the video detailing Mendez' journey.
