Teen ‘Voice’ Sensation Travels Back To The ’80s Performing A Judds Hit

Nov 23, 2018

Chevel Shepherd has stunned the world with her debut on "The Voice". This girl has a voice that sounds full and rich, far beyond her 16 years. She wowed the judges in her first round performance on Monday night, November 12th.

A lot of artists, especially those of her age, would tremble under such pressure. However, she never missed a beat while singing the Judds 1985 hit, "Grandpa (Tell Me 'bout the Good Old Days)".

The song was written and released almost 20 years before Chevel was born. This classic has seen renewed interest and popularity in the past few years, due to its nostalgic lyrics. The song is a perfect match for Chevel's voice and talent.

Ever since her blind audition in early October, Chevel has been the one to look for. She received a 3-chair turn with her rendition of The Band Perry's song, "If I Die Young." She chose to work with Kelly Clarkson instead of Blake Shelton, which stunned many viewers.

However, for Clarkson, it was the perfect match as she had been looking for a country singer to join her team.

Clarkson had made no secret that she was looking for a female country singer. She loved the breaks in Chevel's voice that reminded her of both Dolly Parton and Sarah Mclachlan. The main reason Clarkson wanted Chevel, however, was the young singer reminded her of herself when she was young.

Chevel's decision has paid off. She has dominated the competition. She wowed the crowed with well done renditions of "You Look So Good in Love" by George Straight and "Travelin' Soldier" by the Dixie Chicks.

She is one of the top artists still remaining in the competition for the Voice's season 15 crown. The competition is getting stiffer every round. Watch her rendition of the Judds' "Grandpa (Tell Me ’bout the Good Old Days)" for your self:
