Taylor Lautner Vanished From The Spotlight Overnight — His Pursuit For 'Freedom' & A 'Normal Life'

The “Twilight” saga ignited the careers of its stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner almost immediately overnight. The five films are based on the four novels published by author Stephenie Meyer, and have since gone on to become extremely popular and successful with fans. The first film in the saga, “Twilight,” was released in November 2008, and the final film “Breaking Dawn: Part 2,” was released in November 2012.

Since the book series did so well, it was no surprise when the film series received a high turnout from fans and did well at the box office. Stewart was already known for her work in other films such as “Catch That Kid” and “Speak,” while Pattinson had a role in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”

Lautner was also no stranger to the acting industry as he already found some success with minor roles in various cartoon shows and comedy series. He also appeared in the film “Cheaper by the Dozen 2” and landed the starring role in “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl.”

However, while Stewart and Pattinson continued to find waves of success following the “Twilight” saga, Lautner’s career didn’t seem to have as much speed. Although he continued to act, he didn’t land many extremely successful roles. On top of that, Lautner struggled with adjusting to life in the public eye as a Hollywood heartthrob, with much of his private life becoming very publicized.

Since then, a lot has changed in Lautner’s personal and professional life, and he has since worked at reclaiming his fame and finding happiness with his life.

Lautner was born on Feb. 11, 1992, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is best known for his work as an actor. He has had a few voice roles in cartoons such as “What’s New, Scooby Doo?” and “Danny Phantom,” and has also been in various films, including “Abduction” in 2011 alongside Lily Collins. Lautner also had a leading role in the second season of “Scream Queens.”

However, nothing could compare to the fame he received from his role as Jacob Black in “Twilight.” The role earned him worldwide recognition, and Lautner was sought after by fans all around the world. However, his career didn’t seem to have the same trajectory as his stardom.

In January 2022, Lautner interviewed with TODAY to talk about what it was like going from being one of the most famous actors at the time to essentially disappearing from the public eye overnight. One of the main reasons behind this disappearance was Lautner’s struggle to adjust to losing much of his privacy.

“Not many things in life can come and happen overnight,” Lautner said. “Fame can, but it can also disappear overnight.” The actor reflected on being just a teenager at the time he was thrusted into the public eye, and how desperate he was to “live a normal life.”

However, Lautner explained that it was just as hard to lose the fame so quickly, and not have fans and paparazzi approach him as much. He said, “You start to question yourself and start to be like, ‘Oh, do people not care about me anymore?’”

Still, Lautner found the positives in his more private life. “It felt like freedom,” he said, talking about how he was finally able to go to a grocery store after avoiding it for 10 years due to the amount of attention he would receive.

Lautner’s life has changed a lot in the more recent months. Since 2018, Lautner has been publicly dating Taylor Dome – a nurse from California. In November 2021, the pair announced that they were engaged. Lautner went to Instagram to post a beautiful photo showing the magical proposal in front of a bright light-up sign that said “Lautner.” He uploaded another post saying that he “cannot wait to spend forever” with Dome, as she loves him “unconditionally.”

Since then, the actor has had a resurgence in popularity, with fans flooding his social media with positive comments about how happy they are for Lautner and his future. Lautner has gone on to appear on a few late night talk shows to express his gratitude for his fans and their loyalty. He also went to Instagram on Feb. 6, 2022, to share a heartfelt post with them.

Lautner wrote:

“I sit here today overwhelmingly grateful for all of the love and support over the last week or so. Beyond that, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the encouragement from those closest to me. I have the best family and friends in the world and can never express how much I love each and every one of you. Tell someone how much you love or appreciate them today! Never take for granted how simple and easy it is to turn someone’s day around and make them feel loved. LOVE ALL OF YOU!”
