Swiss Town Covered In Cocoa Snow After Chocolate Factory Suffers Ventilator Malfunction
Aug 20, 2020
The Swiss town of Olten received a sweet surprise when they were dusted with a coat of 'cocoa snow' earlier this week. On Tuesday, August 18th, 2020, chocolate company Lindt & Spruengli confirmed local reports and stated there was a defect in the ventilation system that led to the sweet snowfall.
According to TIME, the reason cocoa powder was strewn across the town of Olten, Switzerland was due to a small defect in a cooling ventilation system for a factory line for cocoa nibs. The Lindt & Spruengli company confirmed this and also noted that the small chocolate particles do not pose harm to people or the environment.

Small chocolate nibs, or the part of the crushed cocoa bean that is the basis for chocolate, were seen on people's cars, walkways, and houses. The strong winds on Friday apparently facilitated the spread of the cocoa snow and covered the area of the town in the vicinity of the chocolate factory.
According to TIME, Lindt & Spruengli company has offered to pay for any damages caused by the incident, but they have yet to hear from anyone taking up the offer. The chocolatiers have been making their delicious product for over 170 years and have various factories across Europe.
