Stray Cat Adopted By A Lonely Truck Driver Accompanies Him On The Road Now
Jan 01, 2019
Paul Robertson has been on the road working as a truck driver for many years. While he loves his job, he has admitted that it can be pretty lonely at times. Being on the road for weeks at a time can take a toll on anyone! Because of this, he thought it would be a great idea to get a companion. He adopted Howie, a wonderful cat that was by his side for many years.
Unfortunately, Howie died in 2017. Although Robertson was devastated, he knew that there was no reason to not get another cat. After all, there are hundreds of thousands of shelter cats that are just waiting to be adopted! He headed to his local animal shelter to hopefully find a new friend who would enjoy being on the road for long trips with him.
The staff at the shelter introduced him to Percy, a ginger cat who had obviously had a bit of a rough life. He was missing a tooth and had an injury above one eye. However, Robertson knew right away that Percy was the one he wanted. They bonded immediately when they met, and Robertson quickly decided that he wanted to make it an official adoption.

Not long after, Percy got to take his very first ride in the big truck. During the two week drive, Robertson took roads that led through the Badlands and the Rocky Mountains. Percy saw lots of scenery and even bison. He loved every second of it!
Robertson wrote on Facebook that Percy is a very affectionate cat. He enjoys crawling on his lap and rubbing on his chest. He also enjoys playing and eating. He also loves to do what other cats enjoy- sleeping.
When the pair were at an Ohio rest stop in February, Robertson said he had a huge scare. Percy leaped out of the truck when he opened the door in order to chase down a few birds. Robertson chased after him, but Percy was just too quick. He wasn’t able to find him before he had to get going with the thousands of dollars’ of merchandise he was hauling. He had to leave without his beloved cat
Robertson shared his tragedy on Facebook. His followers were quick to offer help. They called as many Ohio shelters as they could, asking for Percy, but no one had seen him. Robertson soon arrived in Indiana, still unaware of where Percy was.
It was then he saw an orange flash by his feet. It was Percy, coming out from underneath the truck. His smart cat had made the trip under the body of Robertson’s big rig. He couldn’t believe it!
Percy was very hungry and tired after the ordeal but luckily was fine. After that particular incident, Robertson carefully watched Percy whenever he opened up his door!
It has been two years since the two found one another, and both parties could not be happier. Robertson has often talked about how much happiness his shelter cat has given him. He said that he often catches himself laughing at his antics. He also said that the cat is good for his soul and spirit.
They are such an adorable pair who really love each other. Take a look at just how cute they are together!
