Steve Harvey’s Eighth Grandkid Is On The Way — Grandchildren Make Him Get Up And “Do What I Do”
Jul 25, 2023
Steve Harvey is a man of many talents. The 67-year-old is an author, talk show host, actor, TV presenter, businessman, and comedian. Steve’s road to success was fraught with pain. The Virginia native always knew he wanted to be on TV and wrote that on paper when he was in sixth grade. Steve had a stuttering problem while he was growing up but overcame it.
The comedian grew up poor. He told Grant Cardone on YouTube on January 24, 2019:
“I never saw a sink with a faucet on it till I was five years old. The first time I saw a toilet flush, I was five.”
He also revealed that he got the first car in his name at 38.
“The first car ever put in my name was a used car, and I got it at 38,” he told Cardone on the show.
At 27, Steve started a comedy career but became homeless at 30 and lived in his car. At the time, he changed into public bathrooms and swimming pool showers whenever he got a gig that didn’t provide a hotel. This continued until he was 33.
Steve lived on $50 a week and almost gave up. He told PEOPLE in 2016, “I’m running from homelessness. I can’t ever be in that position again. If my show gets canceled, I’ve got three more. I don’t have any free time, but I have 12 jobs.”
Today, Steve has an estimated net worth of $200 million. He has seven grandchildren and is expecting the eighth soon. He loves his grandkids and said on his Facebook on August 15, 2017, that he continues to work because of his grandchildren. Continue reading for details of Steve’s relationship with his grandkids.
Steve tried his hand at different jobs the same way he tried his hands at marriage three times. His first marriage to Marcia Harvey in 1981 produced three kids: twin sisters Brandi and Karli Harvey and son Broderick Harvey Jr. The marriage ended in 1994, after which Steve started living in his 1976 Ford.
The businessman attempted marriage a second time with Mary Shackelford in 1996. The duo had a son, Wynton Harvey, together. However, the marriage lasted only nine years before they called it quits, and Steve was alone once more.
Fortunately for Steve, his third attempt at marriage was successful. He reconnected with his third wife, Marjorie Harvey, in 2005 through a mutual friend. They had first met in 1987. The couple tied the knot in June 2007. Marjorie had three children from previous relationships: Morgan, Jason, and Lori, and Steve adopted all three kids, giving them his last name.
The “Family Feud” host credited Majorie with changing his life for good. He mentioned that she gave him the peace he never experienced and taught him to listen more. He appreciated her belief that they would always be fine regardless of their circumstances.
The talk show host is close to all his children and has seven grandchildren from their relationships. Karli Harvey and her husband, Benjamin, have a son; Jason, and his wife, Amanda, have four; and Morgan has two with her husband, Kareem.
When one of his grandchildren, Rose, arrived in 2014, the comedian told Today on November 17, 2014, that he had been spending time with her.
“I’ve been trying to do nursery rhymes, but I don’t know any. I was singing some nursery rhymes to Rose, and they were all mixed in. ’Cause I don’t know any of ’em completely.”

Steve will be welcoming his eighth grandchild soon. The new baby will be Jason and Amanda’s fifth child.
Amanda shared the good news on her Instagram page on July 17, 2023. In the first slide, she shared a clip of herself with a very prominent baby bump as she turned from one side to the other in front of a mirror. Amanda also shared pictures of her family outdoors, one of herself and one of her daughters on the other slides. The second slide showed a cute scan of the baby in her womb.
“The Bible says to be fruitful right? 😂 Baby #5 is due in October, 😆❤️🥰," the model joked in her caption. Her mother-in-law, Marjorie, liked the post with five red hearts.
Steve couldn’t be happier about the news. Although he often jokes that his children dump their kids in his home, he shared with Access Hollywood on September 19, 2020, that he loves to hug his grandchildren and give them candy.
“Half of my grandkids are vegan, and the other half are pescatarian, so most of my grandkids don’t eat meat. So, they love me because I give them everything,” he joked on the show.
Steve confirmed this on his Instagram, he confirmed that by sharing a photo of some of his family members standing in front of his house with a mat that read:
“NANA’S AND PAPA’S HOUSE. Grandkids are spoiled here.”
“I know that’s right. 📷: @marjorieharvey,” the talk show host captioned the picture.
To capture his love for his grandbabies, Steve posted a picture of one of his grandsons on Facebook on August 15, 2017. He captioned the picture:
“All of my grandchildren are the reason why I wake up every morning and do what I do.”
