Steps Announce Comeback After Pop Star Sia Pens Their New Single

Sep 09, 2020

It's impossible to think back to the 90s without remembering dancing and singing along to Steps songs such as "Heartbeat," "Stomp," and their version of the Bee Gees' classic "Tragedy." Who could forget those dance moves!

Steps fans new and old will be pleased to hear the iconic pop band, consisting of the core five members: Claire Richards, 43, Lee Latchford-Evans, 45, Lisa Scott-Lee, 44, Faye Tozer, 44, and Ian "H" Watkins, 44, is now getting back together for their sixth studio album. This will include a brand new single which was written for them by pop sensation Sia.

The group premiered their new single–a nifty dance track aptly titled "What The Future Holds"–on BBC Radio 2. It was written by fellow pop star Sia. In an interview with The Sun, Richards stated:

"Sia wrote the track for herself but realized it wasn’t really for her and gave it to us. It’s not like it was in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. It was her who said, ‘We should give this to Steps because it would really suit them.’"

Steps was formed in May 1997, and released its debut single "5,6,7,8," shortly after. It was an immediate hit. The group has sold over 20 million records worldwide, received a BRIT Award nomination in 1999 for Best Newcomer, and supported one of the biggest artists of the time, Britney Spears, on tour the same year. According to the Official Charts, from 1997 to 2001, the group had an impressive 13 Top 5 singles in a row. The band split in 2001 much to the disappointment of fans across the globe.

This wasn't the end of the road for Steps, though. According to the Express, the five-piece ensemble reunited in May 2011 for the documentary TV series on Sky Living called "Steps: Reunion." They followed this with a greatest hits album entitled: "The Ultimate Collection," which was released in October 2011. Incredibly, this was the third album of theirs to enter the charts at number one.

The band’s sixth studio album, also called "What The Future Holds," comes out on 27 November. The band will then be going on a UK-wide tour in the fall of 2021, with support from singer Sophie Ellis Bextor, reports the Express. We are sure fans of the pop world are eagerly awaiting the arrival of this album and are looking forward to injecting some catchy dance routines into their lives!
