Soldier Reunited With Dog He Saved Overseas As A Tiny Puppy In Heartwarming Video

We all love a good reunion story, don’t we? Whether it is a story about a soldier coming home from overseas after a year-long deployment or a pet being reunited with their owner, we all enjoy those tearful moments that loved ones come together again.

This reunion is no different. You’ll probably be grabbing for tissues after you read about how this soldier met his dog and then how they came together after being apart for months.

“Barrie” the dog was only a small puppy when Sean Laidlaw found her in Syria. The 30-year-old found the Asian Shepherd mix while he was at work as a bomb disposal expert. The puppy was found mixed up in some rubble in the area he was working in. Barrie and Sean immediately bonded. The two then traveled together through various countries and war zones.

Sean is in the British Army’s Royal Engineers, according to The Telegraph. The whole time, the faithful pup stayed by his side. Sean said that when you come back to camp, you often have to just sit and stay in your room. He says that having his dog with him allowed him to get his mind off of the things he was seeing while working in a war zone

Sean, who is a corporal, also said that Barrie helps him with his PTSD, a common condition of soldiers and veterans. He said that a dog is always happy to be with you, which helps you to be happy.

Sean was separated from his beloved dog in April of 2018 while on a quick trip to the United Kingdom. It was there he learned that his contract was canceled. The soldier realized he would have to get his dog home on his own.

Luckily, he was able to do just that, with the help of a GoFundMe campaign and the organization War Paws. On November 3rd, 2018, after months of being apart, Barrie and Sean were reunited.

Sean admits that he was scared she would not recognize him when the two finally got together. He said he felt “pure joy” when he quickly realized that this would not be the case.
