In 2020, Biles dropped out at some of her initially planned events at the Tokyo Olympics after struggling mid-air on one of her earlier performances.

According to an e-mail statement received by publications such as The New York Times, she withdrew from the team finals because of a mental health issue.

Her trainers revealed that she was re-evaluated every day and that her then participation in the event finals would depend on what those evaluations found. The U.S. Olympic team has since continued competing without the renowned gymnast, scoring a silver medal in the last event even without their famous frontrunner.

Biles’s sudden withdrawal from the competition has shocked fans and sports enthusiasts worldwide. The gymnast has since spoken out and explained her reasoning behind the decision. She did not decide to withdraw on a whim.

Biles had already qualified for all four Olympic event finals and was expected to earn the gold medal in at least three. In the all-around bracket, she was expected to repeat her title win from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. This would have made her the first female gymnast to win back-to-back titles in the Olympic all-around in the last 53 years.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Biles successfully returned to the Olympics and bagged three gold medals and one silver medal. She is now the most decorated gymnast in history, with 11 Olympic medals and 30 world championship medals. She also has the most Olympic medals earned by a U.S. gymnast.

At one point during her journey at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Biles was heavily criticized on social media about her hair. Biles was subjected to backlash after many fans noticed how badly styled and undone her hair was during one of her routines, where she successfully bagged a gold medal.

“Simone Biles hair never being done properly be pissing me off. Everybody else on the team is put together, then she looks like she just rolled out of bed 🤦🏽,” a user expressed on X, formerly Twitter.

“Her hair looks broke off , fried, and unhealthy. I don’t think anyone is trying to be mean, if anything it’s black women giving advice . She is the best gymnast ever and she has the means to attain healthy hair . Why not look and be your best simultaneously?,” another echoed

However, in a now-expired Instagram Story, Biles explained that her hair had been done, but during her 45-minute ride to the venue, the hair had sadly gone off. Apparently, the air conditioning on the bus was turned off during the trip, and the temperature in the vehicle was around “9,000 degrees,” explaining how hot it was at the time. In fact, Paris has been experiencing a period of hot weather for the last roughly ten days, with temperatures reaching as high as 35°C (around 95°F).

Eventually, after her gymnastics journey at the 2024 Olympics, Biles gifted her fans with a hair transformation. Biles’ longtime stylist, whom she had with her at the Olympics, posted a photo of her. Biles looked blooming and beautiful, with her flowy black hair and light makeup accentuating her facial features.

Biles commented on the photo, proclaiming her stylist to be a “gold medal stylist babyyyyy❤️❤️❤️❤️🥇🥇🥇”

Many have showered Biles and her stylist love on the comments, saying,

“GORGEOUS GOAT SO PROUD TO B AN AMERICAN!!!!!!!” one commented.

“so glad I found your page bc I was like ohhh Simone got her hair SLAYED as soon as competition was over!!!! You did THAT 💅🏾😍,” another wrote.

“Your hair looks fabulous and congratulations on your accomplishments! 🥇❤️,” a third congratulated.
